Yeah I feel recently the show's need to fit into the current cultural landscape has seeped into the show itself and the core of the character's gotten lost. The show's going "look at us we are fun and exciting" and so that's how the Doctor comes across

I feel Michael in Small Prophets is more like the Doctor than any of the recent ones. Pottering around in his shed, barely acknowledges it when people are pointing out he's being weird. I feel him being an oddball is what Doctor Who's missing. Capaldi was the last one who was like that.

Small Prophets is sooooo good. Best thing about it is I can tell Mackenzie Crook really loves these characters and wants the best for them

Just got out of seeing the Melania movie. It's just her sitting against a white background reading the unredacted Epstein files for 4 hours. Pretty clever way to fulfill the legal obligation to release them by putting them in a place no one's going to see them.

Catching up on Severance - finding season 2 a lot warmer, funnier and more human than season 1. Particularly captivated by Dylan and Irving's stories.

It's nowhere near season 1 level of course and I have many criticisms. It's probably the weakest season but, as ever, the internet overreacts to fuckery so it's basically the worst thing in the world apparently.

Finished Stranger things season 5 now...that ending was fine. Writing was no better/worse than the rest of the season or seasons 3 and 4. Dunno what everyone's complaining about.

There's an advert on itv about a little girl who can't tell the difference between real life and the AI assistant in her parents' car. It's the most depressing advert ever that thinks it's adorable.

There was this Amazon show called "them" which does that - problem is people tune out with no familiar entrypoint. I heard a lot about season 1 but heard nothing about season 2 and don't know if it's picked up for a third.
Think ST should definitely have been a trilogy at most

Might have to do a full rewatch and look at how it holds up cause I haven't seen the previous ones in ages. Season 1 feels very low key by comparison to what it's doing now

Stranger things season 5 - lesson learned so far is if you've previously made it look like you've killed off a main character then undone it, they're basically invincible from that point cause I don't buy that they're ever in any real danger

We just watched episode 3 and I'm starting to get into it but yeah there's a lot of copiously explaining plans
