I've applied to join codexwriters.com! 👾
Sold a cool little 400-word story to a pub I love a couple days ago, which makes 3 acceptances this month.
Guys I was unpublished until a couple weeks ago. What is happening.
Ooo this is very cool, very Scavengers Reign
30.10.2025 17:55 — 👍 4 🔁 2 💬 0 📌 0Our town in NJ is known for Halloween festivities and I’m honestly dreading it. We don’t have a garage or driveway and probably can’t move the car starting tonight. Also pretty sure we didn’t buy enough candy 😬

Ok about 40% in now and getting a little annoyed by the direction. I hope this not going where I think it is.

27.10.2025 15:35 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Struggling with the next editorial. Original idea just didn't pan out and time is running out. Open to suggestions or could just do a Q&A style editorial where the Q's come from here. Those can be fun sometimes. Suggest or ask away. :)

23.10.2025 21:56 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Yea I just mean to say I understand the instinct to do this (and have def written sentences like this myself in trying to produce something new/interesting) so I don’t judge anyone too harshly. Like another poster said, this scenario is what editors are for—totally agree there!

We want stories and poetry with a strong voice and a sense of adventure, stuff that makes us feel things, stuff that lets us use our hearts and our brains and leaves us wanting more!
Guidelines & schedule:

I think there’s a section in Self-Editing for Fiction Writers that suggests this. Something like: the first few words that come to mind will be the first that come to other writers’ minds so try to push past them to create novelty.
22.10.2025 17:37 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0It’s so weird being a heritage speaker of a language. I have very high comprehension, but I’m B2 (intermediate) in terms of speaking and whatever level “the Little Prince” is in reading. 🫠 So difficult to explain.
22.10.2025 13:53 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I wrote (and later threw away) a story about a family of magical sisters (I had two brothers lol) when I was maybe 11-12? But my writing was intensely discouraged so I stopped by end of HS and didn’t pick it up again until a few years ago (I’m 35 now).

Talented artist, reviewer, and beloved member of our community Archita Mittra is going through some really hard times currently. If you can spare a few $ it would make a world of difference ❤️

I’ve donated what I was paid for this story to Al-Jawad, a school in Gaza, run by a teacher named Hadeel Al-Gharbawi.
They use funds for backpacks, chairs, hygiene essentials, teachers wages and more.
If you’d like to support them as well, the campaign is here:

didn’t expect to be sobbing a couple chapters in but here we are…
18.10.2025 18:32 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0So thrilled for my debut to be in this issue and amongst these writers, with @arielmarkenjack.bsky.social at the helm! ♥️
17.10.2025 15:35 — 👍 8 🔁 2 💬 1 📌 0I would still submit. I don’t check acceptance percentages before submitting anywhere (too taxing on the psyche 😭)
15.10.2025 15:56 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0As someone who just began submitting regularly earlier this year, this is completely mind blowing.
I submitted by chance when Strange Horizons opened in Dec 2023 and they held the story for 9 months (no simultaneous submissions) but ultimately rejected it. 🫠 It still hasn’t found home.
Some stories slip out of you like a slow, easy exhale and some stories emerge like jagged breath, like hyperventilating.
Guess which one I’m writing right now!
(Ok back to it.)
important news! night shades will open for submissions again this coming friday october 17.
🛸 staying open to fill the calendar, 23 spots. all the details are here : www.nightshadesmag.com/submissions/
Cover image to the book, showing the back of an astronaut in a space suit as he steps off into a psychedelic swirl of cosmic colors and stars. The title circles around the figure.

I'm giving away this signed 1st edition h/b of my new novel (it has a tiny jacket rip which means I wouldn't sell it) to one person who reposts this.
You might like it if you like:
Folkloric creatures
Old records
Intricate psychedelic stories
The idea of circular time
All shares much-appreciated.
"She thought she’d wanted to cling to her husband with fingernails and desperate gasps for air, yet now as she stepped into the beckoning darkness, she almost rushed toward the isolation, into a sanctuary where women grieved alone in ritual and mystery."
Precisely my experience.
Having recently experienced a miscarriage, this story holds my heart. Earnest and beautifully written.
