COP30 TEXT ANALYSIS: One way to read dense COP text is to focus on the verbs. These are helpfully italicised – and for good reason.

MOSTLY INACTIVE: Carbon Brief analysis of the β€œglobal mutirΓ£o” text finds 69 inactive verbs, requiring no action, against 32 active verbs.

The IEA has brought back the Current Policies Scenario (CPS) in the World Energy Outlook (WEO).

I think this will be useful. Fossil CO2 emissions keep rising, when they should be falling. It is time to admit that. So I hope the CPS can help address this issue.

Russia loses bid for UN aviation authority council seat Moscow immediately called for β€œa repeat round of voting” after Russia fell short of the support needed to gain a seat on the International Civil Aviation Organization’s 36-member council.

Russia failed to win back its seat on the United Nations aviation agency's governing council today after staunch opposition from the EU over the invasion of Ukraine.

The world's most liveable cities for 2025 - and what it's really like to live there Copenhagen has overtaken Vienna as the world's most liveable city in 2025. But what makes these places tick? Locals in five top-ranking cities share what life is really like there.

NEW: Copenhagen β€œdethrones” Vienna as the Economist’s β€œmost livable city.” Vancouver is the only North American city in the Top 10, joining 3 Aussie cities. By all means discuss & debate, but the most important thing to still remember is to take such Economist rankings with a BIG grain of salt.

Protecting the environment has always made economic sense. Now we have proof | Nicki Hutley The failures of our environmental protection laws mean we are not only failing nature but also undermining productivity – at a huge cost

One of the worst problems of framing environmental and climate action as a way to make bank is that people actually hear the message....and you end up with disastrously financialised and profit-focused climate policies (eg: carbon markets, renewable energy certificates etc)
