The APM crap is the likely culprit there. Or they see pro players mashing out hotkey build orders and think that's how "everyone" plays.

I know this is preaching to the choir, given your video on the subject, but in terms of how it spread, that's probably the case.

So yeah... Arc's TTS bots, IK models and voice changers aren't GenAI. The voice stuff is crappy, but it's crap that the devs were fully open about, and paid the actors to create.

The CEO is a dumb arse.

"Trust but verify" is a dying concept as people try to "kill" the monster, and not care whom they take out by accident alone the way.

Ensure you have enough evidence before pulling the trigger, because people will just keep firing despite the mistake being known.

I mean this in both directions, by the way. I've seen a hell of a lot of people using shitty AI detectors thinking they're infallible. I've had plenty of people saying sure fire ways of spotting it because of certain phrases and punctuation, which would make me a bot. Which isn't the case, clearly.

Now, again. I know the voice acting is the big turn off here. I'm not arguing for a change of opinion, or to preach to a choir here.

But, if you're going to swing at something, *stay on target*.

Stop biting on viral terms and actually read what is happening.

Ok, first off, that's still not "Generative AI". Whole different kettle of fish there.

Second off, think Rain World. That did the exact same thing.

However, I have to be that guy again, and point out that people have, once again, jumped on misinformation and ran that horse all the way off the cliff.

There's no Generative AI in the game. What people are saying is not accurate.

The difference is that the technology behind TTS has improved. We've a long way from the original Microsoft Sam, of course.

Now, would I prefer full voice acting? Absolutely.

Do I buy that this is "better" for releasing new content? No. I'd argue it's probably not faster than recording new lines.

It's also a lot older than folks realise. For instance, this lot started in Elite Dangerous way back over a decade ago.

Same story. They hired actors to record the lines, and then combined them with a free program called Voice Attack to allow for voice commands to translate to keybinds and macros.

Now, I'm not going to try tell you that "this is the future". I mentioned being very questionable on even this voice tech being used in the game, and I get that it's a very understandable deal breaker, even if this is the "most ethical" way of going about making these tools.

So, that, and coupled with the fact Arc isn't using GenAI, is further evidence that CEOs have no bloody clue what reality is, let alone existing on the same planet as everyone else.

But, we knew this.

But this bloody moron just jumped right into the ball pit with this one.

It goes without saying "not every games company" is using "AI". The GenAI stuff has helped to sink EA into a buyout, and there's multiple industries stating this tools are a complete hindrance and utterly unusable.

*Uuugh*

This is not how you deal with the reaction. This isn't remotely accurate even to the bloody game.

So, to restate. This isn't actually using GenAI. This is voice simulation, IE your Presidential Gaming memes and so on.

They paid and negotiated this with the actors up front.

That sounds like meaningless buzzword guff, to me.
