We recorded a pod today and I regret giving that kit the score I did. It should have been a lot lower.

My favorites: Angel City FC and Orlando Pride

I have two winners, but not sure if I should ever reveal it...

There will be a brand new podcast episode tomorrow!

86' Great team sequence there.

Spaanstra finds the perfect ball into Tordin.

She's one on one with the keeper, but can't find the angle to score.

What in the world? Deyna Castellanos turns impossible into reality. #BAONPDX

WOW.

21.02.2026 20:02 β€” πŸ‘ 11    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 1

WHAT THE HECK? WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

66' Multiple ricochets leads to the Houston Dash opening goal - likely own goal?

67' Deyna "the audacity" Castellanos rips it from midfield right after the restart and equalizes. HOW??!!!!!

1-1 folks.

21.02.2026 19:56 β€” πŸ‘ 6    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 1

Short corner taken by Portland...

Deyna Castellanos with so much skill in getting that ball back to Jessie Fleming for the cross into the box.

21.02.2026 19:48 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Farrah Walters definitely one of the NRIs who have shined at the CVI

21.02.2026 19:46 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Houston Dash already making good adjustments and have been the way better side to start the second half.

21.02.2026 19:43 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The press from the team was devastating all half long and stifled almost all of Houston Dash's attacks moving forward.

Good to see players all get minutes - will give coaches more to work with before final roster decisions.

21.02.2026 19:38 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

More thoughts:

Morgan Messner after a shaky start with positioning and distribution, settled in quite well.

Deyna Castellanos is operating as a free-flowing midfielder - Sarah Lowdon's influence already on full display.

Rookies & the press were terrific.
Backline communication so much better.

Jessie Fleming is no doubt the right choice to be opening day captain for the Portland Thorns.

Here is her right after the first half whistle discussing with interim head coach Sarah Lowdon.

21.02.2026 19:22 β€” πŸ‘ 8    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 3

The build-up play has been incrementally getting better all half and team seems due for a goal.

Obviously one of the last things to come during the preseason is the goalscoring, but real solid performance on both ends of the pitch today.

Very encouraging for Sarah Lowdon & co

21.02.2026 19:18 β€” πŸ‘ 6    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

44' That's so darn good by Mimi Alidou who plays a perfect ball out wide to Deyna Castellanos.

She receives the ball back from DC and plays it out wide to Maddie Padelski who gets her shot deflected.

Great counter sequence there but the final third product has been lacking.

21.02.2026 19:16 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Bogere is playing as the deep lying midfielder - a bit lower than Fleming.

Looks like it'll be her or Shae Harvey opening day at that position if the club doesn't make any additions before then.

21.02.2026 19:13 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Cassandra Bogere has checked into the match.

Her first preseason minutes with Portland Thorns.

She reported and trained with the club earlier this week.

21.02.2026 19:10 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Jessie Fleming is wearing the captain's armband today. Alongside Mackenzie "Macca" Arnold likely are the two co-caps heading in the season.

JFlem looking like opening day captain for the Portland Thorns.

Her influence with the young roster is unmatched.

21.02.2026 19:05 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Agreed night and day difference.

I think MM as the third FB so they can rotate in and out with MA and RR makes this group one of the best in the league.

It'll come down to the CBs though...
