ar180 Self-Defense Forces Model
TYPE89
HOWA was going to make an improved version based on the AR180 as the next official rifle, but problems arose, so a new development was made and the Type 89 rifle was created.
Although it is a newly developed rifle, it has many similarities with the AR180 and can be considered a kind of derivative.
HOWA Kogyo had been producing and exporting the AR180 under license and delivering modified models to the Self-Defense Forces.
Production by HOWA Industries was discontinued when it was discovered that radicals in Northern Ireland were using Japanese-made AR180s.
Following the Type 64 and Type 89, the Type 20 has a gas regulator. Details are not known, but it is small and stylish.

09.03.2024 19:18 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The Type 06 rifle grenade has a mechanism that combines a bullet trap and a separate flight system.
All grenades were designed and manufactured in Japan because foreign-made grenades were dangerous due to flying fragments when fired. It also has a self-destruct function in case of malfunction.
The left selector, which became standard equipment after the Iraq deployment, has the disadvantage of being poorly positioned and out of reach of the thumb. It is like for left-handed shooters.
A rubber tube is attached to prevent the fixed pin from falling off.
This is a video of the selector operation of the Type 89.
The specifications are the same as those of the real gun, although an airsoft gun is used.

The selector on the Type 89 cannot be short-circuited from safety to semi-automatic, which is a drawback.
The right side selector was designed to prevent accidental operation during crawling, but after the deployment to Iraq, it was also equipped with a left side selector.
Dot sights and casing catchers specifically for Type 89 rifles, etc., will be explained later.
There is not much information available.
The Type 89 rifle has a gas regulator following the Type 64. Gas pressure is determined by the number of holes, and the basic setting is 2. It is screwed in, and if the stage is ignored and tightened to the end, the gas block is completely closed and will not blow back.
The second photo is a replica
Unlike the M4, the bolt catch (slide stop) on the Type 89 rifle is raised when the hold is opened and released by pushing down. However, since the bolt release is supposed to be done by operating the bolt handle, this slide stop was not originally designed as a bolt release button.

08.03.2024 11:06 — 👍 1209 🔁 206 💬 0 📌 1Gun control in Japan is particularly strict with handguns.
Firearms that have been destroyed as designated by the police can be legally possessed, but handguns are not easily distributed.
As you can see in the picture, it is perfectly destroyed, but now it is much stricter. This is from the old days
To own a real gun in Japan, it must be a work of art, only in appearance, that has been destroyed internally in a manner designated by the police to render it unusable, but even one destroyed in such a manner would cost no more than $35,000. Handguns are very rare because they are very hard to find.

In Japan, a Colt Government that has had part of the frame cut off, gilded, and most of the parts not visible from the outside removed, the inside of the frame shaved and welded further, and the barrel filled with metal costs several million yen!

07.03.2024 19:00 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0This is a 9mm machine pistol, but the selector and other design features have been changed, and it is a copy not licensed by UZI.
When we interviewed an active SDF officer, he told us that he had not seen any of these in his armory recently.
Most have probably been decommissioned.
The SIG P220, adopted under the name of 9mm pistol, is machined unlike the original, so the edges of the corners are sharp and cool. Engraving patterns are available in Ground, Maritime, and Air Self-Defense Force specifications.
Recently replaced by H&K's SFP9, the number is expected to decrease.
The JGSDF "MINIMI" was produced by Sumitomo Heavy Industries under license from FN. Each part of the Japanese-made Self-Defense Force model differs from the original. Sumitomo withdrew from the business and in recent years began importing the latest models from FN.
07.03.2024 18:33 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0If the Type 89 and Type 20, which are prohibited by Japanese law from being exported or sold to the general public, were to be exported overseas for civilian use, would you buy one?
Of course, it would not happen as it is now, and even if it did, it would be very expensive.
Don't get me wrong, other countries' guns are not inferior to the Type 20 because they are also designed and optimized for their applications and times.
07.03.2024 18:17 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I think there is a part of the reason why we were forced to produce small quantities of products domestically in order to protect Japanese production technology, even if it became more expensive.
I think there is also a part of the reason for this.
I had heard that Marui products are expensive overseas, but I didn't think it was that much.
In Japan, you can get one for about $375.
The Type 20 is the latest rifle from the Japan Self-Defense Forces, and has won comparison trials with the FN-SCAR and HK416, making it as modern as any gun in the world.
It is designed with remote island defense in mind, making it easy for seawater and other liquids to escape, and rust-resistant.
I recommend the gas blowback.
They look so realistic that the Japan Self-Defense Forces officers are very complimentary of them.
Tokyo Marui's airsoft products are delivered as training materials, so the quality is high!
Unfortunately, it is impossible to get one because Japanese law does not allow it to be exported.
However, you can get airsoft guns made with materials provided by the Ministry of Defense!
There are electric and gas blowback guns made by Tokyo Marui.
Is there anything you would like to know about the Type 89 rifle used by the Japanese Self-Defense Forces?
