I feel this hard. As originally coined (can’t remember by whom but if I remember correctly, it was a Black woman), POC was created to leverage political power. It was a political organizing tool. Now however, it has become exactly as you say - to erase Blackness and recenter whiteness.

Racism does not require intent. Even nice, good, kind, thoughtful, social justice oriented ppl do a racism from time to time.

First, I hope he’s mortified this violent word came out of his mouth 3x that evening. And while I sympathize with his experience and the aftermath of the night, my concern is for Mr. Michael B. Jordan, Mr. Delroy Lindo, and Miss Hannah Beachler who were all on the receiving end of this violence.

The disability may be an explanation, it is not an excuse. And the n-word is ALWAYS racist and ALWAYS violent when spoken by non-Black people. No one gets a bye.

When will y’all realize that this violent word and the racism we experience daily impacts our physical and mental health?

The word is VIOLENT. It’s more than harm, feelings, offense. Sorry this guy has this particular tic; he has gotten FAR more grace than ANY of the Black people on the receiving end of his tic. First, we attend to the people harmed. Having a disability does not absolve one of responsibility.
