It is clear to me that otherwise smart people fail to grasp the realities of Black and Indigenous peoples in this country, to the detriment of everyone. That is both a moral and an intellectual failing. It’s lazy and wrong almost every single time.

If your thinking, theorizing, scholarship, politics, and public writing doesn’t include Black and Indigenous people, I think you should stfu. Cuz all you’re doing is centering whiteness as the norm. There are and have always been 2 Americas. 1 half knows what’s up, the other lives in fugue state

I think I’m going to have to find that. I think more about Baldwin, Malcolm, Morrison, the Panthers, Hampton, Clark, Harriot, Hannah-Jones, Wilkerson, Smith, Dennis, Love, and others. So many Black thinkers then and now have theorized and thought about these things past and present.

It’s the Black erasure for me. Tell me you don’t read or study Black life without telling me you don’t read or study Black life.

I’d say, take a look at the sandwich trial today. If the guy had been Black, what do you think the outcome of that trial would have been? Hell, do you even believe he’d have made it alive to trial?
