A favorite indeed! I love the books and could quibble with plenty in the film, especially Maturin, but I enjoy it madly regardless. And Crowe managed to define Jack Aubrey for me. It's a rare performance that can redefine a beloved character and be entirely welcome in doing so.

Might need to start a little side hustle printing Teddy Roosevelt stickers to go over that crap.

My 2026 calendar of abstract nature images, on an afghan rug, being trodden on by a small calico cat, who very much hopes calendar sales will be spent on cat treats.
I'm not much of a salesman, but I do have photography calendars available. This year I went with abstract nature images. The cat knows you want one!

22.11.2025 17:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Photograph of very small toad on a blade of grass above pond algae. The toad is mottled black a dull green with a prominent pale dorsal stripe. The bulges and bubbles in the algae emphasize the smallness of the scene, as do the three blades of green grass crossing the scene at angles.
Something small, Bufo exsul, a tiny toad that lives only at a set of springs surrounded by vast stretches of California desert, isolated from other amphibians, adrift in its own watery cosmos.

Vertical landscape photo of a scene with autumn trees, fog and a creek. The creek is flowing through a steep bed of large rounded cobbles and small boulders. The smattering of yellow trees is set amidst a mountainside thickly wooded with evergreens, with the fog playing and extruding tendrils among them.
