Last week ICE pulled guns outside of my 7 y.o school. Today, it was outside of my 10 y.o's school.

The public never understood what public health did, so they don't understand the loss. The underreporting of who's been fired and what expertise we are losing feeds this lack of knowledge. The lack of knowledge = lack of pushback.

I'm teaching today about our role in ensuring an effective and responsive public health system, and I'm overwhelmed because the system we worked so hard to build no longer exists. It's been decimated by this administration and our citizenry doesn't know what that means.

Convince me that this is what they voted for. Better yet, convince them, no, make them stop.

I read the email from my kid's school telling us the school is on lockdown due to guns drawn outside their doors. Knowing that the father of my child's best friend was detained as a result.
When I picked up my kid she told me about the lockdown, eating lunch in class "kinda like COVID times mom"

I heard the fear in my neighbor's voice as he screamed his name so there's documentation of who was being detained.
I saw my kid's school in the video frame, knowing inside there's 700 elementary age kids impacted by what's going on.
I saw the agents get in my neighbor's car and drive his car off.

My neighbor, an American citizen, was detained by ICE yesterday. Guns in his face as he listened to their threats to break his car windows to pull him out.
I watched the video.
I heard the person recording it hyperventilate.

My house is shaking as ICE helicopters hover above our heads.
Chicago is under siege.

Getting turned away from CVS is what prompted this post. I was told "they are no longer sending COVID vaccines to this location" after we got there for our appointment.

After 4 tries, my children still do not have their COVID vaccines. This search for vaccines... it's starting to feel like 2021 all over again. In the richest country in the world, it shouldn't be this hard to get vaccinated.

Just in case you thought we were finish with measles because you haven't heard about it in a while, I'm just here to remind you that measles case continuing to rise. There are 1514 confirmed cases for 2025 so far. This is about 5.5 times more than the cases in 2024, and 26 times more than 2023.
