Enron's retaliation against Watkins did not stop the company from being held accountable.
Because of her disclosure, Enron was investigated and Watkins testified before Congress.
Enron admitted it overstated its profits and became the largest corporate bankruptcy at the time.

Watkins eventually wrote a letter the CEO and questioned him about the company's accounting practices.
She warned that Enron "might implode in a wave of accounting scandals." By the time she went public with her disclosure, she was a target in an Enron smear campaign.

Watkins realized that Enron was hiding financial losses and inflating the company's stock prices.
The company effectively decided their own profits and were never held accountable.
