Enron's retaliation against Watkins did not stop the company from being held accountable.

Because of her disclosure, Enron was investigated and Watkins testified before Congress.

Enron admitted it overstated its profits and became the largest corporate bankruptcy at the time.

Watkins eventually wrote a letter the CEO and questioned him about the company's accounting practices.

She warned that Enron "might implode in a wave of accounting scandals." By the time she went public with her disclosure, she was a target in an Enron smear campaign.

Enron whistleblower, Sherron Watkins, was the Vice President of Corporate Development at Enron.

Watkins realized that Enron was hiding financial losses and inflating the company's stock prices.

The company effectively decided their own profits and were never held accountable.

This month, but more importantly every month forward, Black history must be preserved, respected, and taught—never erased. Any law enforcement agency engaging in violent or unconstitutional policing practices must be held accountable for the harms they perpetrate.

Unsurprisingly, in 2026, we continue to see over-policing of Black communities, redlining, and mass incarceration of people of color. These are not isolated incidents, but deliberate attacks on Black communities and Black history.

Overwhelming evidence shows this approach has failed to create safety, instead perpetuating distrust, trauma, and the very cycles of crime it claims to solve.

For 60+ years, law enforcement's default response to crime in Black communities has been over-policing and over-incarceration, rather than community-based solutions.

Federal raids, deployed by the Trump administration to cities including D.C., Charlotte, and New York, are disproportionately targeting communities of color.

Since Norfolk Southern's train derailed in East Palestine and EPA concealed the scope of public health risks, our team has worked tirelessly to connect with whistleblowers and residents, submit FOIA requests, review evidence, file lawsuits against DHS, and more.
