Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal - 2012-03-21 Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal - 2012-03-21

For some reason, Justice Thomas' late career arc reminds me of this SMBC comic about elderly physicists.

I don't think that's either necessary or effective as a way of Trump whipping GOP support. They've never shown an inclination to standup to daddy Trump before, they don't need a Bibi-endorsement to point them that way.

Israel's conduct here is independently problematic/condemnation-worthy/ill-conceived, but there's no reason for Democrats to let Republicans off the hook by agreeing with Republicans that Republicans aren't fundamentally responsible for their own disastrous choices.

Like, already I've seen versions of "we'd never have gone to war in Iran OR Iraq if Israel wasn't pulling our strings" and I'm like "...because making bloodthirsty and ill-conceived policy choices is so unimaginably out-of-character for GWB or Trump?" Why are you simping for them?

03.03.2026 20:25 β€” πŸ‘ 21    πŸ” 3    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I get why Republicans are running with the "Israel made us do it" frame -- it gives them a ready-made escape hatch if things go south -- but I don't get why* so many progressives are eager to promote this narrative absolving the GOP of responsibility.

* I absolutely get why

When, in however many months/years, the GOP tries to run from this calamity, the line they will take about where they went astray will 100% be "we were dragged into this by the Jews; lesson learned: 'don't listen to Jews'".

The Shock Has Passed, the Awe is Gone One of the Trump administration's earliest and most vicious power abuses was its attempt to sabotage law firms who it viewed as tied to Trum...

The Trump admin's great strategic play was to come out storming, slamming through as many extremities as possible, as fast as possible. It left people reeling, and set too many institutions running.

But now the shock has passed. We're not reeling anymore. We're fighting. And we're winning.

Missile hits a school in Iran; missile hits a school in Israel.

Maybe there’s no need to fire any of these missiles. Maybe the precious lives lost could still be here today but for the evil delusions of cruel men.

Candace Owens drives backlash against US, Israel strikes | The Jerusalem Post The remarks came hours after US President Donald Trump announced the US had begun β€œmajor combat operations in Iran,” as Washington and Jerusalem opened a new phase of confrontation with Tehran.

Last I saw, she was claiming that β€œthey murdered Charlie Kirk for this war.” But it’s been a few hours, so she could’ve done something equally or more awful since then.

The thing that’s most remarkable to me about these betting sites with respect to political issues is that anybody is willing to be a counterparty without also being an insider. Pure adverse selection.

Makes sense. Surely, neither GWB nor Trump would do something vicious and/or foolish unless (((someone))) was manipulating them. It’s so out of character!

Literally every country involved in this stupid war has a government I’d love to see removed from power, and for none of them is the right way to do it military action by the other two.

Callers to Washington state hotline press 2 for Spanish and get accented AI English instead Callers to Washington state’s driver’s license agency who select automated service in Spanish have instead been hearing an AI voice speaking English with a strong Spanish accent.

We shouldn't look past that this is awful on a host of levels, but it's also hilarious (the person who identified the glitch analogized it to Parks & Rec, which, mwah).

I cannot stress enough how this bs about Mills and Collins being β€œthe same” (they’re not, not even close) is exactly how one talks oneself into supporting Mr Nazi Tattoo (hey, at least he’s different!).

I've expanded on this thought in the below post. Platner isn't doing well in spite of things like the Totenkopf, but because of it. They're part of his appeal.

In a climate where people see and present Jews as the ultimate string-pullers, antisemitism is viewed as proof one will not bow to power.

Imo what is happening on x is that the algorithm loves racist and anti semitic content, and the people who are on there marinate in it all day, and the epstein files has offered an excuse for even left identified people to indulge in the trangressive pleasure of public bigotry as a little treat

Here's the good faith point: your reasons for defending Khanna were bad (bad math, to begin with, but also bad analytics). Instead, one should defend Khanna based on good reasons. Bad reasons, even when they fortuitously yield the right result in one case, lead to bad results in others.

Khanna's line wasn't antisemitic bc it didn't trade on antisemitic tropes. But if it did, the "conflation" defense wouldn't save it (cf. Nexus: "genocide" claim IS antisemitic where "accompanied by claims about the distinctive nature, power or perfidy of Jews or the state of the Jews").

It has. It notes the genocide allegation is antisemitic if "accompanied by claims about the distinctive nature, power or perfidy of Jews or the state of the Jews" or if it "yields a call to undertake violence against Jews."
