STOP WAR THREATS ON IRAN Reports are mounting that another illegal US military attack on Iran is imminent, with Trump deploying even greater levels of military power to the Middle East. He has also repeated his threats of regime change for Iran, stating that ‘would be the best thing that could happen’. Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, has publicly repeated that Iran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons and stated it is willing to accept inspections of its nuclear facilities by the International Atomic Energy Agency. In return, it wants the crippling sanctions that are devastating its economy and population’s living standards to be lifted. However, both Trump and Israeli Prime Minister, Netanyahu, are also arguing that Iran should dismantle its ballistic missile system – something Iran has made clear that it will not do.

So there are growing concerns that the talks are set up to fail, in order to justify another large-scale illegal military attack by the US – and possibly Israel – against Iran.Trump is now sending the world’s largest warship, the USS Gerald R Ford, to the region. There is increased military activity at US bases in Britain, with reports of 18 US-F35A fighter jets being deployed from RAF Lakenheath to Jordan. Brize Norton RAF base has also issued a Notice to Airmen announcing that the base will be operational for essential aircraft only over the period 27 February - 27 May, with concerns this indicates that the base may be involved in military action.In response, Iran has held live military exercises in the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow shipping lane in the Gulf through which 20% of global oil and gas is transported. CND reiterates its call for the maximum pressure to be placed on the US and Israel to pull back from any military assault on Iran. This risks engulfing the Middle East in a devastating conflict, risking hundreds of millions of people. CND also reiterates its calls on the British government to rule out any military involvement in an attack on Iran and to refuse permission for the US to use the joint US/UK Diego Garcia base on the Chagos Islands. If the US does launch any illegal military aggression, CND and Stop the War urge all those who oppose this to join an emergency protest at Downing Street, details of which will be announced.

5. RAF Digby Surveillance hub for US drone programme. 6. RAF Feltwell Provides housing for US personnel based at Lakenheath. 7. Supports Molesworth as the Joint Intelligence Analysis Centre for US and NATO.

RAF Croughton US Air Force communications and combat support hub, currently processing approximately a third of all US military communications in Europe. 12. RAF Fairford Hosts US Air Force intelligence personnel. The US’ only European airfield for heavy bombers. Used as an airfield for US B-52s during the 2003 Iraq War. 18. RNAS Yeovilton Host to NATO’s Joint Electronic Warfare Core Staff (JEWCS). Provides electronic warfare ‘capabilities’ for NATO operations. 19. GCHQ Bude Joint US-UK intelligence collection station. US paid for most of infrastructure and technology.

Palestine Coalition welcomes High Court decision calling proscription of Palestine Action unlawful The Palestine Coalition welcomes news of the High Court’s historic ruling which declared the British government’s ban on Palestine Action unlawful. The judgement is a decisive rebuff to the state’s attempts to criminalise political dissent and activism aimed at stopping material support for genocide. Over the past two years of Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people, millions in Britain have taken action to oppose British support for Israel’s atrocities through protests, campaigns and direct action focused on the arms companies supplying it. The British government should have taken immediate action to end its own involvement in genocide,

but instead has been cracking down on protest, including through the unprecedented use of anti-terrorism legislation to ban Palestine Action, and attempts to silence all forms of protest through the extraordinary misuse of Public Order legislation. Today’s ruling, and the court victories of the previous weeks in the cases of the Filton 24, show that the government’s overreach is not only immoral, it is unlawful. We call for the resignation of police commissioner Mark Rowley, as well as former Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and current Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood. In light of this ruling, the Palestine Coalition calls on the CPS to drop the charges on all who have been linked to this unlawful proscription and other cases of protest against British complicity in Israel’s genocide, including

the organisers of the national marches for Palestine facing criminal charges. Furthermore, we call on the government to accept today’s ruling, and to withdraw its connected attempts to silence protest. Finally, we call on the government to address the root causes of these protests and impose a two-way arms embargo on Israel to put an end to British complicity in Israel’s ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people. To get this back on track, we need global public pressure to push for interim measures that could be agreed between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin today! This could involve a one-year moratorium on exceeding New START caps, the resumption of inspections, and a moratorium on deploying new Anti-Ballistic Missile systems like Trump’s Golden Dome. A new treaty is possible if pressure is put on these governments to come to an agreement, which will build momentum to further nuclear arms control agreements involving more nuclear powers.

Rather than sitting on the sidelines, the government could show leadership and use its diplomatic influence to push for the US and Russia to extend New START. CND has written to David Riley UK Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament and our members are lobbying Yvette Cooper, Foreign Secretary, urging them to use their influence to secure the extension of the Treaty.

With the expiry of the New START treaty between Russia and the US, CND is calling on the British government to stop sitting on the sidelines and push for an extentson to the treaty ahead of a new arms control agreement.
