These plans are part of a huge rearmament programme backed by new US nuclear weapons stationed at NATO bases across Europe. How on earth could siting nuclear weapons even closer to nuclear-armed Russia be a plan to secure stability and reduce tensions? This is far more likely to lead to a further escalation of tensions and increase the risk of nuclear confrontation. CND is part of a growing movement across Europe that is opposing this war drive. We need a nuclear-free Europe and a common security strategy based on peace, diplomacy, and dialogue.”

CND condemns illegal attacks on Iran CND totally condemns the illegal military strikes by Israel and the US against Iran. Progress was being made on a new nuclear deal. Oman’s Foreign Minister, one of the mediators between the US and Iran, made clear that Iran had agreed to degrade its current stockpiles of nuclear material to “the lowest level possible” and to “full and comprehensive verification” by the International Atomic Energy Agency. It's absolutely clear that the US had no intention of securing a new deal and is intent on destroying the country to bring about regime change
These illegal attacks by the US and Israel risk engulfing the entire Middle East in a devastating war, threatening the lives of hundreds of millions of people. Iran has already retaliated with attacks on Israel, US Navy fleet in Bahrain, and US bases in Kuwait, UAE, and Qatar. The British government must condemn these illegal attacks - and rule out the use of Diego Garcia. CND is protesting today at RAF Marham. We are also supporting an emergency demonstration in Downing Street from 3:30pm. Supporters and local groups are encouraged to organise protests in their own communities this evening.

CND is horrified that the Ukraine war continues into its fifth year. It is the most serious nuclear flashpoint in the world today. It is absolutely critical that this brought to an end. Instead of military escalation we need diplomacy and dialogue.

Update on the trial of Ben Jamal and Chris Nineham Today was due to see the start of the trial of PSC Director Ben Jamal and Stop The War Coalition Vice-Chair Chris Nineham. We thank everyone who joined us in solidarity outside Westminster Magistrates Court this morning. Instead, the trial has been adjourned today because of the volume of material disclosed to the defence at a late stage by the Crown Prosecution Service. The trial will now resume on Thursday 26 February and continue next week from Monday 2 to Wed 4 March at a venue to be confirmed. Two further days may be required later in March.
This case is part of a wider clampdown on the right to protest in general and specifically in support of the rights of the Palestinian people. We will not be deterred from our campaigning. Drop the charges, Defend the right to protest, Free Palestine. Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Palestinian Forum in Britain, Friends of Al Aqsa, Stop the War Coalition, Muslim Association of Britain, Campaing for Nuclear Disarmament.
