Somewhere in an alternative universe orgs are posting reports with the title "Surprising insights that made us change our mind".

Not particularly. It's the same for many think tank, NGO and authority reports. It's (un)surprising how often the outcome of reports nicely aligns with the org's interests πŸ˜‰ Not helped by the fact that the methodologies for these reports are often less than robust.

I recommend feeding this (and similar papers) into LLMs to check scientific robustness to check how "evidence-based" this really is: bsky.app/profile/step...

We need more optimism in RLHF, I don't like this unhelpful answer. Give me my 28-hour day, Claude!

One of the best AI use cases for me is to perform a quick initial test of the scientific robustness of reports and surveys that authorities, think tanks and NGOs publish to determine if it's worth reading the document in more details.

A small girl wearing a rabbit costume and blue coat carries a book as she walks to school.

Her mother (head out of shot) wheels her baby brother along in a pushchair.

The baby says "Peter Rabbit may be the 'Hero' of the story, but surely the obedient, widowed Mrs Rabbit is a more effective symbol of the oppression inherent within Mister McGregor's regime"

The girls looks furious and snaps "Mum!! He's critiquing my world book day costume from a marxist perspective again!"

What the hell happened with AGI timelines in 2025? | 80,000 Hours

1. GPT-3.5 (ChatGPT, November 2022)
2. GPT-4 (Spring 2023)
3. Reasoners (starts with o1-preview, but the real deal was o3, Spring 2025)
4. Workable agentic systems (Harness + good reasoner models, December 2025)
