Colorado four o'clocks paint the Mojave Desert this time of year around Bull Mountain, wearing a 5,000 ft. cloud sombrero here...

...and a pure luck shot, my first Bordered Patch butterfly looks surprised I even tried!

I believe these are whitestem paperflowers crowding a baby cholla cactus, but I have been known to be wrong about most every flower I find...ymmv.

So I won't even try to name all this stuff painting the Mojave Desert floor above 3500', but the colors sure look a lot like the colors we found 4,000 feet higher up on Aspen Peak. If you were expecting more view shots...tough.

Slope covered with heather, mostly gone to seed, gorse, laced with winding paths cleared by grazing ponies + people's footfall leading to a grove of holly, oak + hawthorn on top of the hill. Dartmoor, Devon.

Heather, apparently, is collectively, grug - which is an inarguably brilliant word. A single heather, as pictured above is gruglon, also excellent.

To walk is kerdhes, 'dh' pronounced like Engish 'v' +, indeed, it's hard to walk in a straight line through heather.

A type of Asian raspberry introduced to North America in the late 1800s, they grow wild across the eastern US & are invasive as they spread fast & crowd out native plants.

If I take any home, they go in a sealed container so I’m not accidentally spreading seeds somewhere new. Forage responsibly!

Near my home, I’ve been lucky enough to stumble upon a wineberry bush growing wild. They’re a little like raspberries, but shinier and a bit tart-sweet.
