This seems like it might be an interesting article, but I don't want to give my phone number away just to be able to read the supposed "free gift". I don't like getting spam calls or text messages.

It's even worse than this. Several of them have talked in front on TV about how they were actually hoping for deportations of immigrants they did not like. Of course, they felt that they and their families would be immune from this. One woman was in tears because her father was deported.

In Brazil, they say that money whitens. Candice Owens seems to think that para-nazi politics will lighten her skin tone. She seems to have no idea that these people she supports despise her.

It's shocking but believable. I knew someone who was an undergrad in biology at Harvard and who wanted to write his senior thesis debunking Darwin. But somebody had tried that the year before and it was rejected. This put his graduation in peril. This guy decided to shelve his New Earth Creationism.

As someone who has been to quite a range of colleges and universities in the United States, I can say several things with confidence. You can definitely get some stupid people at elite universities. And you can get some brilliant people at lower ranked universities. But anyone who thinks that, on

This notion of "how Americans hate Europe" is way too simplistic. There is considerable hostility among significant sectors of the US population, but that is only part of the story.

Far too many people are thinking about 2026 simplistically: "will they cancel elections or will we

this would be a better way to divide and weaken the opposition then would be the case with banning all elections. That is extraordinarily costly for a regime to do. But if maybe 20 to 30% of elections are reasonably fair, they can probably convince opponents to continue "buying the electoral lottery

of elections to consolidate their control and to make them sufficiently unfree and unfair in long-lasting ways.
If the smart people among the MAGAts are strong enough, they will insist on continuing to have elections and also making sure that some of them are reasonably free and fair. In most cases

The suggested model was how the federal government was able in the 1980s to force states to raise the drinking age to 21, and they did this by adding sections to bills for funding things from the Department of Transportation. It's popular that MAGAts will try something similar to centralize parts

Elections certainly are quite decentralized because the Constitution gives the states the power to organize. And of course you know this. I remember 25 years ago there were Democratic proposals to try to use Federal funding bills as a way to force the states to adopt laws against gerrymandering.

elections can be very valuable for authoritarians. It allows them to point to opposition, parties, media, etc. And to the not too infrequent victories by the opposition as evidence of a supposed democracy and a supposed mandate.
You're thinking along very outdated lines of authoritarianism.

This is an incredibly simplistic approach. Banning all elections is an extraordinarily costly thing to do. It's far easier to continue having elections, but make sure that a majority of districts are sufficiently unfree and unfair so that MAGAts will win overall.
