A difference between the Academy and me is that when I was writing up my own theoretical 2026 Oscar nominations just for fun, I nominated '28 Years Later' a dozen times

A Complimentary Profile Of Jason Lee That Was Surprisingly Difficult To Publish | Defector If you walked down Colorado Boulevard in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles at some point in the past three years, you might have noticed a modest, pueblo-style beige building with β€œPHOTO” painted above its door. And if you had decided to go in, there was a decent chance you’d know the pers…

This @defector.com story is a good (non-political) example of why it’s not enough to have a bunch of individual reporters with newsletters running around. You need some kind of institution with the resources (and principles) to publish despite legal threats. defector.com/a-complimentar…

One family is about to control CBS, CNN, HBO, and TikTok. They’ll buy Warner Brothers with $24 billion from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi. To win over Trump, they canceled Colbert, blocked a 60 Minutes CECOT investigation, and blocked Talarico. Much more will follow. Block this rotten deal.

Dexter Sol Ansell Has His Own Ideas About Egg’s Future β€œEveryone has their conspiracies. I’ve been speaking to George, and he hasn’t decided either,” says the Knight of the Seven Kingdoms star.

Had a lovely conversation with Egg, a great kid. Read it on @vulture.com www.vulture.com/article/dext...

Much to consider. When you figure out a way to make money to pay for journalism and a way to get news in front of people, let's pick this back up.

23.02.2026 01:46 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

okay well in the meantime I guess we can just chuck out in-depth investigative reporting that takes time and money because you're mad that you sometimes see content that pays the bills (and even then just barely).

23.02.2026 01:44 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

If you're mad that you're part of the attention economy then idk why you seem to think journalism is the only industry that traffics in that economy. But I wish you the best getting your information from TikTokers trying to game the algo so they can get views and clicks w/out any semblance of ethics

I mean that was, in its own way, the problem with print media too. (Hey did you know that lists of movies like there were a common feature in certain print magazines?)

But what comes next after digital media's failures? Just... no news? Individuals without larger resources for in-depth reporting?

23.02.2026 01:38 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

replies to this would beg to differ!

And I am very open about entertainment journalism having much lower stakes than a lot of other types of journalism. I'm not trying to steal valor for myself.

23.02.2026 01:26 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

ignoring that as an entertainment journalist I also do plenty of interviews in addition to criticism (which a good list is) and essays... is a list of Godzilla movies what you're so mad about? You're not even accusing me of the things that you claim to be the problem with journalism

Anyway, I don't know why the Bluesky folks are so mad all the time. There was just a viral post (on this site!) about how the number of newspaper jobs has dropped from 360,000 in 2007 to about 80,000 today. You guys are winning!

23.02.2026 01:08 β€” πŸ‘ 19    πŸ” 3    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 2

Okay yes but time and time again on here the solution seems to be "The New York Times should be fully destroyed" and I don't know what step two is.

23.02.2026 00:54 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 5    πŸ“Œ 0

I don't use Twitter anymore! I think you can make the case that journalism is worthwhile independent of Twitter

23.02.2026 00:39 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah that's wild. Journalists have never even considered what structural forces might be causing the precipitous death of our entire industry. The good news is that when journalism is finally dead, that will be better (?)

23.02.2026 00:38 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

It's wild how much Bluesky fundamentally hates journalism. Like, yes journalism right now has plenty of issues. (Ask any journalist about it! We love to bitch about journalism!) But on here the entire premise of "reporting" is reviled by people who think they're doing 'Spotlight' whenever they post.

Kit Harington and Sophie Turner turn Onibaba into something Dreadful The Game Of Thrones stars reunite in The Dreadful, an uninspired folk horror remake of the Japanese classic Onibaba.

Confused about β€˜F1’ getting a Best Picture nomination? Some of the first films ever made included watching a horse go vroom and a train go vroom. It’s only right that the Academy should honor a movie about watching a car go vroom.
