They don’t seem to care about your presence, this was in hanifaru bay and your interaction is monitored so can only snorkel and freedive but can’t disturb the rays when freeing or use action cameras on long selfie sticks. However, the rays come very close to you.

Me too, have had the fortunate to see quite a few pods from a boat but this was one of the very rare opportunities to see them whilst in the water

That’s my understanding as well, could watch them all day. You have to spend a little time with them and approach very slowly to get their trust, sometimes it works but mostly it doesn’t
