Strategies evaluate credible choices to achieve defined objectives under uncertainty, with the enemy getting a vote. Apart from the classic American mode of warfighting, which is to unload gargantuan quantities of ordinance on a target, I’m not aware of any clear thinking about choices.

The US and Israel both have interests in preventing nuclear acquisition by mid level powers in the region (and the US in other parts of the world), but smashing Iran likely accelerates this development rather than retards it.

Israel is a regional power, working to smash and degrade a rival. If Iran fails apart as a state Israel probably calls that a win. The US is a global superpower, and a smashed Iran has implications for Central Asia and Europe as well as the Middle East.

Thread. A strategy always starts with an identified objective, and a good one includes acceptable objectives short of the maximalist objectives. I think Israel has objectives, and I’m convinced the US hasn’t identified coherent strategic objectives.
