We identify effects by comparing trade secret ingredient use in response to the federal defend trade secrets act (DTSA) across states with lower state level protection (i.e., high treatment) and higher state level protection (low treatment).

🤐 While often impossible to study, we know firms protect their (often, most important) IP using trade secrets.

@aldona.bsky.social and I found a way to observe and study them. We find trade secret use & novelty increases following increased legal protection.
