This is true. I mean Nathan got to choose because he was the gold-medal favorite going in and it made sense for him to split and conserve energy. Unless wildness happened, the US was going to get exactly the bronze, whether they split dance or not.

I don't know what it stands for, but I believe it's the rule that if you medaled in the previous Olympics, you get a bye to nationals & you get to skip the regional/ sectional qualifying events. Since the Shibs weren't skating during the last Olympics they technically shouldn't qualify for the bye

One thing that might be having an impact is that they refused to split the team event at the 2018 Olympics, which kept (likely Hubbell/Donohue) from getting in on a basically guaranteed team Olympic medal

But I always feel like, if you're coming back for the Olympic season, you need to at least come back the season before. It's probably smart competition wise, and you also help the team earn those Olympic spots. Tessa and Scott did it.

I mean, as a whole, the Shibs are the better skaters (at least back when they were competing) but I didn't always love their material. Bock has better lifts, better connection, and for the most part, more interesting programs. I think it would be funny for grandpa evan to win an individual medal
