I just created a quick map depicting which portions of the United States are now (as of today) or will imminently be (by early June) without 24/7 local National Weather Service coverage (per Washington Post reporting). #CAwx #CAfire #CAwater #ORwx #AKwx #WYwx #KSwx

β€˜This is a big problem’: Two California weather offices no longer provide 24/7 warnings Collectively, the Central Valley offices issue forecasts and warnings from Redding to Bakersfield, including Lassen, Yosemite, Kings and Sequoia National Parks.

NEW: Two California weather service offices will no longer operate 24/7, curtailing the output of an agency that issues warnings for more than 7 million people in the Central Valley. #CAwx

A spokesperson for NOAA confirmed to @sfchronicle.com that the offices were not operating around-the-clock.

The corridor across southern MN is terrifying. The tracks of these two prolific supercells are basically stacked on top of each other. Taylorsville, MS area just got hit hard, and they could take another direct hit in 40 minutes. Really scary situation unfolding.

Probability of 2 or more tornadoes: >95%

Probability of 1 or more EF2–EF5 tornadoes: >95%

This is the third NOAA/SPC PDS tornado watch in history with both of these probabilities maxed out. Prolific and destructive tornado outbreak is imminent.

The outpouring of posts, messages, and texts the last few hours is bittersweet. It’s evidence of the incredible community that is made up of everyone at NOAA and associated non-federal organizations, and the shockwaves that result when so many are abruptly cut off.
