Years ago, I warned that Danielle Smith would run out of enemies in political realm and turn her sights on the courts.

Her latest attacks aren't some high-minded philosophical critique of judicial supremacy.

They're pure populist pablum, specially crafted to remove yet another check on her power.

Thank you Dr. Holt. There are many hyper partisan substack pundits these days who offer uninformed polemics. @markhamhislop.bsky.social does his homework. Even if you disagree with his theses on issues, you can at least be assured they're rooted in journalistic research and critical analysis.

This is among the most democratically dangerous things Danielle Smith has said.

She wants to remove all checks and balances on her power and projects herself as the embodiment of "the people."

We have left the realm of liberal democracy in this province.

One point not made, as far as I know, is that the Smith govt has invoked the notwithstanding clause, it said, to limit taxpayer exposure in the teacher's strike and the AIMco fiasco.

But yet the UCP want to spend billions of taxpayer dollars to clean up wells that the oil industry abandoned.

Sam Mraiche bought a building in Edmonton AFTER it was toured by two UCP chiefs of staff and an ADM of Health to see if it would work as a detox centre. ROSC, the private detox services provider, is now the tenant in Mraiche's building. 1

There is more to come. It gets worse.

Three former executives independently described a culture in which some senior government politicians and their staff displayed open mistrust of data and advice. They also describe an ideologically based “hatred” for AHS, the giant organization that for more than a decade managed the province’s public health-care system. The government is in the process of dismantling AHS and replacing it with multiple agencies, which health policy experts and staff have said is unnecessary and is causing chaos. “We would bring the data to the ministers and deputy ministers and senior staff but they didn’t trust AHS, they didn’t trust us, and they didn’t want to listen,” said one former senior AHS executive. “So part of it is ideology, part of it is that no matter what you said to them, they didn’t believe it. They didn’t care.”

No. You misunderstood. They hire consultants to fix the problems created by the Health minister refusing to listen to advice from experienced AHS execs or belief data. This is from the last story I published.

Former senior AHS execs told me they fear the healthcare system is like Humpty Dumpty: so broke it can't be put back together again. Sources say UCP spending a fortune on consultants for rushed fixes to serious organizational problems LaGrange et al were warned would happen, but ignored the advice.

CBC, which is hyperconcerned about diversity, inclusion and its brand, needs to publicly explain why it stays on a platform owned and maliciously manipulated by a virulent white supremacist.

BREAKING: Matt Jones, one of Alberta's health ministers, just said the private surgical facilities for Red Deer and Lethbridge have been cancelled. Those two projects are owned in part by Sam Mraiche.

Yet more evidence that the "arm's length" Alberta Energy Regulator is a farce. The UCP govt told the AER not to enforce flaring rules, not to tell the public about it, and prostrate itself to the rogue energy companies and they did as they were told.
