Glad to see The Bear still experimenting with form and further developing its characters. Season 4 felt like they were back in the game, though for me nothing can still quite match Jimmyโ€™s banana.

โ€˜Memories of these places never leave youโ€™: artist Do Ho Suh and the fabric of home The internationally renowned South Koreanโ€™s diaphanous houses, coming to Tate Modern, embody the emotional imprint of where he has lived

For anyone interested in art or architecture the Do Ho Suh exhibition at Tate is a must. The sheer painstaking patience of the man is incredible. A genuinely original show themed around the memories of places weโ€™ve lived. www.theguardian.com/artanddesign...

Visited Villa Stenersen in Oslo recently, designed by Arne Korsmo for Munchโ€™s biographer. Itโ€™s well worth a trip.

Yoshitomo Nara review: cutesy terrors swear, smoke, play guitar and burn down houses The Japanese artistโ€™s instantly recognisable delinquent infants fill a huge show that also includes more sombre โ€“ and still angry โ€“ work made since the Fukushima disaster

A long time ago i made the mistake of asking the price of a small print of Yoshitomo Nara in a gallery, thinking i might get it as a gift for my partner. I did not get the gift. www.theguardian.com/artanddesign...

BFI Film on Film Festival 2025 Welcome to the BFI Film on Film Festival where every film, without exception, is projected from a print.

BFI Film on Film Festival opens for booking next week. Quite like the sound of a rare screening of Frank Perryโ€™s (of The Swimmer fame) Fire Island set Last Summer. Oh, and i guess thereโ€™s also Star Wars from an original 1977 print. Might be popular? whatson.bfi.org.uk/Online/defau...

Having visited Picker House today, it was every bit as good as it looks. Impeccably kept modernist time capsule with an art collection including Hepworth, Calder, Miro, Rodin, Sutherland and more (or Moore). Worth booking one of the limited tours. www.stanleypickertrust.org/about

AD Classics: Bagsvรฆrd Church / Jรธrn Utzon Completed in 1976 in Bagsvรฆrd, Denmark. The Bagsvรฆrd Church by Jรธrn Utzon was completed in 1976. Though not his most famous work, the church is an example of the architectโ€™s inventive work...

Would also really recommend Bagsvaerd Church by Jรธrn Utzon. A bit more of a schlep out of town but well worth it. But check before you go and donโ€™t turn up during a funeral like we did. www.archdaily.com/160390/ad-cl...

Finally watched Close Your Eyes, and when Ana Torrent intones โ€˜Soy Anaโ€™, echoing her debut over 50 years ago, it hit me like a wave, returning me not just to Ericeโ€™s earlier masterpiece but also to a 30th anniversary San Sebastiรกn screening attended by the actress. Itโ€™s a shame as there are some great touches (the quarry scene) but theyโ€™re then overshadowed by some fatal mishandling (the quarry party).

Backlash builds: why the architecture world hates The Brutalist Brady Corbetโ€™s Oscar-tipped film is clearly based on real-life modernist master Marcel Breuer but brazenly misrepresents him and his revered modernism

Although you shouldnโ€™t expect a fictional narrative to stick to the details of someoneโ€™s (in this case Breuerโ€™s) life, this article does touch on many of the things wrong with The Brutalist. Kept wanting Paul Thomas Anderson to step in and do it properly. www.theguardian.com/film/2025/ja...

Still tickets left for a rare 35mm screening of Robert Towneโ€™s Personal Best at BFI. Feels like one of the last hurrahs of the New Hollywood filmmakers, a film rooted in character but with a directorial style all of its own. whatson.bfi.org.uk/Online/defau...

Re-watched Jim Jarmuschโ€™s anthology film Night on Earth, and it still feels original. Had forgotten how amazing Rosie Perez is in the New York section, and in fact just how many great actors he corralled in general. Rome is a weak point, but LA, NYC, Paris and Helsinki more than make up for it.
