My dept at TCNJ is hiring a tenure track cell and molecular biologist. Come join my supportive colleagues, helpful staff, & fabulous students!
We're surprisingly well resourced w/excellent equipment (confocal, SEM etc) and research w/students counts towards our teaching load!
Big change here: NIH will only accept six new, renewal, resubmission, or revision applications from an individual Principal Investigator/Program Director or Multiple Principal Investigator for all council rounds in a calendar year.
Going to hurt a lot of people as they try to recover lost funding.
Hey, this is important to do.
Animal testing is vital to having safe medicines. We are an extremely long way from knowing enough about how bodies function to model it all in a computer system. Animal models are needed to ensure human safety.

It's not just about Harvard. "This is the science model the U.S. has developed over 80 years: The government sets the agenda and funds the work; university scientists design the studies and find the answers. The presidentβs willingness to upend that model has revealed its fragility."

Jay Bhattacharya is decimating health research
Here in my state, his cuts are MASSIVE ($566 million in lost funding
NC is #2 in terminated grants
The impact will be horrific
Bhattacharya took $129 million from Dukeβs HIV vaccine development efforts; see www.dukechronicle.com/article/2025...
RFK Jr has worked for more than a decade to sow distrust in vaccines. Despite his efforts, the vast majority of Americans still support vaccines and follow federal guidance. Secretary Kennedyβs decision to remove ACIP members is another act in his crusade to prevent Americans from getting vaccines.

4008 Non-competitive renewals were due to be funded in May.
The total funded was 99!
Some is due to terminations, but most is due to slow grant making due to DOGE review and other impediments.

The AViDD grant terminations (amidst everything else) have had really brutal ripple effects for the next generation of pandemic preparedness researchers. Some of the best up-and-coming talent in the field, now doing gig labor.

The science and research budget cuts happening now are wanton, senseless arson. Recovery, if it ever happens, will take generations.
Here's the NIH's proposed budget - from $48 billion to $27 billion. NIAID, current ~$7 billion cut to ~$4.2 billion.
The proposed 15% cap on indirect costs remains.
Again, these budgets are passed, and our leadership in science, technology, and innovation is gone.
