And as you note, the situation is worse if you use H2 as a fuel in an internal combustion engine.

As a result it takes 3-5x more energy to do the same work with a HFCV as with a BEV. That is why BEVs are expanding worldwide while HFCVs are not.

Fuel cells have efficiency of 30-60% for electrical generation. In contrast, an electric motor has efficiency of >90%. Add to this that the H2 molecule holds less energy than the H2O from which it is obtained, and that the H2 must be compressed and transported for use.

The GOP would like that, but I think the irony is that the market will prevail.

The future will be electric. Fossil fuels and hydrogen are not cost competitive for transportation relative to renewable-powered BEVs.
