Try
www.arrl.org/news/nationa...
Or
www.qrz.com
(Upper left, under the QRZ logo. Change search parameters as needed.)
arrl.org is a good resource, esp in the US. They also have a list of US clubs which can be really helpful for new hams.
W4EEY on YouTube has great study courses using the ARRL study manuals (make sure you are watching the latest v., intro vid will tell you). Many other options as well
Good luck!
Congratulations!

Welcome!
20.12.2024 18:45 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Correct. You need a license to transmit on the amateur radio frequencies. Have fun!

18.12.2024 02:16 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I donโt care how you season it, ham radios definitely taste more like radio than they do ham

17.12.2024 23:43 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I think I'd like to get into shortwave radio, ham radio or whatever but it seems so expensive to get the equipment and basically impossible to set up in an apartment setting, maaaaybe there's a flexible antenna that I could run atop the crown molding? but it just seems so expensive
17.12.2024 06:41 โ ๐ 7 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 6 ๐ 0Expensive is relative, but there are now more budget friendly gear out there. YouTube has many hits on โham radio on a budgetโ.
If you want to listen search for KiwiSDR or webSDR.

Similar struggle here. At the moment, me and the letter โGโ are having a tussle. I consistently hear โPโ.
I set the LICW software between 25 and 35 as otherwise I start counting dits and dahs. This is single characters.

Learn #CW at 25 wpm (at least), not 5.

12.12.2024 20:19 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 018 gauge speaker wire should not be a problem. If I routinely need a lot of heat over a large area, then I might worry. Donโt know about the Ryobi.
FWIW, I dithered long and hard over the Pine64 vs a soldering station. It was the portability and reviews that finally won me over.
Good luck!
Electronics folks: Is a usb-C soldering iron (pine64) workable? I canโt decide between that and a Harbor Freight starter kit to start building amateur radio antennas (so not super detail work).
12.12.2024 12:24 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0Love my Pine64. The tip it comes with is not so great, so I got the fine point kit. Iโve used it to build a few kits and my coax cables. Only antennas Iโve built have been light wire, so YMMV depending on the tasks you are putting it through.
