25.11.2024 21:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Scale of the problem around βopt outβ inventory - compared our latest programmatic yields vs fully consented users and opt out inventory CPMs are around 90% lower.
Fill rate is also substantially lower.
Itβs one of many reasons why content or pay is all too tempting a model for pubs currently
Privacy from a publisher perspective is a topic we all know is important. The reality is, the incentives arenβt there for most to drastically change anything yet. We talk a good game as an industry but our actions around data collection and usage fall well short.
23.11.2024 20:38 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Over the next week or so Iβm going to go on a reshare blitz when I see AdTech, advertising, media, etc posts.
So if youβd like tag me on your posts.
Iβm really just trying to get this place to be more active.
The only way that happens is if we find each other π
Consent or pay is a polarising topic. Regardless of your view, what you must understand is that it is broadly a simplistic solution from publishers to a very complex set of challenges (that are growing)
The issue above all else is that it doesnβt address those challenges long term
Curation POV (from a publisher) - still total ambivalence.
On one hand, clear some parts will be additive and beneficial. Also clear others present a threat and are at detriment of direct sold model and general autonomy.
There is a line somewhere. Problem is, I donβt yet know where that line is
Yes, wouldnβt disagree with any of this. I wonder how long this last before platform incentives inevitably shift the experience of Bluesky. Who cares for now I guess, just nice to have something fresh and more interesting
22.11.2024 18:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Keen to know a bit more about what you precisely mean here. Is this just the absence of biased content? ad to content ratio? Something else?
22.11.2024 18:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Quite extraordinary. Evidence like this makes it tempting to make the cyclical assumption that OpenAIs license agreements are nothing short of preemptive silencing.

How are they really different in your opinion?
20.11.2024 21:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0YouTube algorithm, suggest me something relatable and accessible to my own life.
YouTube:
(Note also the add the above. Iβm hoping the algorithm informing this ad is equally inaccurate as the one fuelling the content rec)
Letβs enjoy it before it becomes inevitably toxic, low grade ad fuelled sludge, ay :)

20.11.2024 20:53 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Arcane and likely boring privacy update worth keeping a close eye on, the new Data Bill (DUA) at 2nd reading stage.
It includes a provision to possibly exclude the requirement of consent for the processing of some data. E.g., possibly measurement in the future. Big bad tech implications, perhaps.
Reluctant to feed the Bluesky algorithm any data about myself because right now my feed is just pictures of space and cute owls and Iβm kind of ok with that
19.11.2024 20:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I donβt think there is much of an ad tech community here yet. Or at least, not one I can findβ¦
19.11.2024 20:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0The biggest danger with an echo chamber, I believe, is when you donβt know that youβre in one.
Sure, many will choose ignorance and βalternative truthsβ in exchange for a narrative that fits their world view but most are seeking some degree of balance.
