I think representative democracy is insufficient. That the US demonstrates no effort at achieving full participation or true democracy reveals the systemic privileges of elites. Under the system of neo-colonialism/global capitalism there is true democracy

Thanks for your comment. Does that mean that representative democracy is sufficient? And we should fight to uphold some semblance of that practice in the future? And what do you make of the reality that fewer than 65% of people voted in those elections?

You make a valid point! And Empathy matters. That said, I have another question: Can democracy have empathy AND capitalism?

Has the US ever had democracy? Should people pursue it? What would be necessary to achieve it?

What collective responsibility do people have for categories of oppression that do not directly affect them? And how do they assume that responsibility if deference politics insists that only those people most directly affected can research or speak to the oppression? #olufemitaiwo #elitecapture
