I think why cringe comedy is so hit and miss for me is because years ago I was celebrating a birthday with friends on a day off and a coworker called to commiserate that I had been let go, which I hadn’t been yet. I had to go in on Monday to be let go. That’s objectively hilarious. From the outside.

When I flew to Portland on Wednesday, a pink haired lady crashed my exit row only to be told off by a stewardess. On my flight home the same pink haired lady had the same flight. We chatted. As lotteries have to have winners, it was cool but I put no weight on things like that (also she’s engaged).

My friend Tom turned 75 on the day I turned 50. I went to Portland to mark this occasion. After some real protest, he paid for lunch, but I made him promise that when I turn 75 and he turns 100 I get to pay.

THE BRIDE never nailed a marketing campaign. I tend to think the difference between its opening and WUTHERING HEIGHTS’s is one got sold well. Which is insane as Jessie Buckley is a current best actress Oscar nominee on the precipice of winning.

Was hanging with an old friend yesterday, and I feel like - and maybe this isn’t that universal - it’s your friends in your teens and early twenties where someone’s shitty hand me down car is a supporting character in “wild night” stories.

At this point - on top of the Pete Docter BS - there are good reasons to consider all of Pixar tainted as it was born of a sexist serial harasser. I’m sure some people will stop watching Pixar, but like Michael Jackson being no bueno, people get irrationally defensive about what they loved as kids.

It’s funny how if boxing is the most cinematic sport, wrestling is one of the least. I think partly because so much professional wrestling is built on kayfabe.

Was hanging with a sober friend and we were at a restaurant ordering drinks and they got an NA, and I was thinking about getting a beer and they said “one of best parts of quitting alcohol is never having to drink IPAs.”

THE SEVENTH CURSE: Showed it to some old friends that I used to show all the real insane trashterpieces (ROCK N ROLL NIGHTMARE, VISITOR Q, THE ROOM, etc.) to on not sober Saturdays. Though we watched it completely sober, it still lived up to those fun weekends of WTF cinema.

PREDATOR: BADLANDS: I didn’t give a fuck about anything that happened in this movie.

One of the things about certain people who look boyish or girlish, be it a Mickey Rooney or Leonardo DiCaprio, Sissy Spacek or Jennifer Connelly, is that you can make the jump to adult or you can’t, regardless of sexualization. You might have a filthy private life, but the camera doesn’t read that.

Went to Powell’s and seeing a lot of books reminds me of Democratic centrism where you’re trying to sell books to people who don’t read so you write a parody REAL HOUSEWIVES cooking book.

Watching I’LL SLEEP WHEN I’M DEAD and it’s funny that Mike Hodges’ career started and ended with two films with the same leads where the first is a masterpiece of genre (GET CARTER, CROUPIER) and the follow up is a missfire (PULP, this).

It’s important to say this now: Trump’s America has violated other countries with interventionist war/assaults. If America is attacked it will be because of the actions of Trump and his people. As such, any attacks on American soil should be seen not as the next 9/11 but consequences. We started it.

Watching some recent movies and that White House propaganda video and… I don’t think a lot of people understand subtext. But that White House video features GLADIATOR and BRAVEHEART for propaganda about American warfare.

This film would have been better if Eddington was a town of a hundred, two hundred tops.

Does the “I do my own research” crowd have a problem with AI?

Love when remotes have a button for a streamer you don’t use kept prominently next to buttons you do use, so when you accidentally hit it, it wastes your fucking time. We don’t have to live like this. Where every inch of non-functional space is non-optional advertising on things we fucking own.

Watching EDDINGTON. I’m pretty sure I’ve liked every new Ari Aster film less than the previous one. I was a fan of HEREDITARY and thought that the opening act of MIDSOMMAR was genius, but this is probably the check out point.

Mom update: She is now watching SINNERS for a second time.

In the same way part of the reason why the press has to play stupid (because if they don’t it would reveal that they are currently unfit to lead), is that incompetent people being replaced by even more incompetent is a feature not a bug of the modern ruling class/Trumpism. They are bad at this.

To add, this also makes them not always notice when their comfort thing has turned into something else.
