β€œCongratulations you are a 2025 contract lawyer of the year,” said the unsolicited email asking me to then contract with them for me to pay a large amount in return for a brochure saying this, and you may now see a flaw in this proposal.

No, no. It was book 7 I just finished. I’ve listened to all of them on Audible. Highly recommended. The narration is excellent. There is also a full cast audio production via soundbooththeatre.com which I can’t say enough about.

On Bullshit #1 New York Times bestsellerFeatured on The Daily Show and 60 MinutesThe acclaimed book that illuminates our world and its politics by revealing why bullshit is more dangerous than lying

Read #7 has been a long time coming for a number of reasons, not the least of which being the next book I picked up was 1500 pages long. But I picked up a little book last night called On Bullshit and couldn’t put it down. Great essay on what bullshit actually is. press.princeton.edu/books/hardco...

Read #6: The Theory of Everything Else by Dan Schreiber (co-host of my favourite podcast, No Such Thing As a Fish). A book of β€œfacts”. A fun collection of batshit theories and stories.

Thanks for these. I've just got the last one left to finish the Red Rising books - great choice - but hadn't heard of the others. Much appreciated!

They are superbly narrated in the Audible editions alone, but the Soundbooth stuff is incredible.

Read #2 was Anchorboy by Jay Onrait (maybe @jayonrait.bsky.social ?). a.co/d/bQ0mO46 If you are a fan of SC with Jay like I am, you’ll love this autobiographical account of breaking into the world of sportscasting.

My first read since election night was Unholy Night by Seth Grahame-Smith. a.co/d/7A0JCXL A reimagining of the Three Wise Men where Balthazar is more like Jack Reacher than a philosopher king. Fantastic fun.

And I’m going to read things that make me happy. Unapologetically. No β€œguilty” pleasures; I’m not feeling guilty about enjoying books that mightn’t appeal to more sophisticated readers.

Should I be able to continue replacing my US news consumption with reading, I should get through quite a few books in coming years. And in the interests of posting only peaceful/helpful or at least inert things here, I think I’m going to feature which books I have read since election night.

Hello folks. In an effort to avoid fixating on the political world south of us for the next four years, I plan on spending more time here than the other place. Going to read some books; maybe learn a language. I can't take being outraged all the time.
