After many years of anticipation (mainly by me), @drlarisa.bsky.social and I have a paper on the way people understand two mental state terms used in the criminal law -- "knowingly" and "recklessly" -- forthcoming in JEP:Applied. 1/

I am giving a talk called "Children perceive moral identities as more changeable for the better than do adults" on 5/1 at 10:00 in room 208C. Daniel is presenting a poster called "Probing children's social information-seeking" on 5/3 at 11:10 in Exhibit Hall B. Please stop by!

I am thrilled to share that I successfully defended my dissertation! πŸ“šβœ¨

This wouldn't have been possible without the support of my mentors, peers, family, and friends. A special thank you to my advisor @drlarisa.bsky.social and committee for their guidance throughout this journey!

Three of us will be speaking at pre-conferences on 2/20:
(1) I will be giving a talk entitled "Children's and Adults' Perceptions of Redemption in Intergroup Contexts" at the psych & law pre-conference.
(2) Daniel Yonas will be presenting at an unnamed pre-conference (maybe moral psych?); his presentation is entitled "The Role of Group Membership in Judgments of Ambiguous Harms"
(3) Christian Mott will be presenting at the moral psych pre-conference; his presentation is entitled "Punishing Probabilistic Harms."
Also! Sophie Charles will be presenting a poster during Session C on 2/21 at 12:30. Her poster is entitled "Adults' Moral and Punishment Evaluations of Identity Denial Targeting Bisexual Individuals."

This paper was so cool to read as an undergrad and re-contextualize how we think about our understanding of prosocial behavior. And just as cool to see so many people committed to replicating the study and figuring out what’s actually at play.

1. Excited to share work in press at Child Development first-authored by Daniel Yonas (@dymoral.bsky.social)! Older kids & adults, but not younger kids, show greater curiosity about why transgressions - vs prosocial acts - occur. Details below, paper here: columbiasamclab.weebly.com/uploads/5/9/...
