Feels like a betrayal, but I'm also very tired and—worse—very bored.

What are the chances that if I finally give up, at least for now, on trying to move home to Chicago, and instead, try to settle in to where I am currently, maybe get a membership to the local art museum, that opportunities in Chicago will magically open up? Isn't that the way it works?

Did I really see angels? I reserve judgment, but my brain made sense of the psychedelic patterns as biblically accurate angelic beings, which is pretty fascinating in and of itself. Enculturation plays a huge role in how we interpret visionary scenes.

And the third encounter with a perceived angel was an ophan, or "throne," that seemed to exist in a vast, but enclosed space in my mind. It may have been situated in front of a door or portal of some kind, but I don't really remember tbh. ⬇️

The second encounter was a "heavenly host" of angelic beings that existed in an infinitesimally small space that I could see when I put my hands over my eyes. Not really like this video, but more like a living diorama in a church. ⬇️

The first was what I perceived to be a cherub, a "living creature," emerge—almost like a magic eye picture—from the constantly morphing patterns during a psilocybin experience. It observed me for a moment, then vanished back into the abstraction. ⬇️

Anyway, it's a good, quick read for a rainy weekend, say. Think I'm going to revisit Piranesi by Susanna Clarke next.

The ending of TIHYLTTW is ambiguous, leaving the door open for more—think how Blake's 7 ends, if that means anything to you. Lots of people seem eager for a continuation of Red and Blue's (Purple's?) story, but I kinda like the ambiguity. ⬇️

Travel Light by Naomi Mitchison is recommended by Blue to Red, so I'll probably pick that one up, too, at some point. So many books—sometimes I wish I were one of those people who gets by just fine (?) without reading. (Not really. Lol) ⬇️

I thought it was a fun connection to something else I'd been learning about lately, and a nice allusion (deliberate or otherwise) to the infinite possibilities and worlds that Red and Blue, the book's protagonists, inhabit. ⬇️

When I went down that rabbit hole about math and infinity recently (which I plan on returning to soon), I learned that the late British mathematician John Conway discovered the surreal numbers, i.e. a number system containing infinite and infinitesimal numbers, from his research on the game Go. ⬇️
