Considering the game is free-to-play, the 2 million players number is as a result slightly misleading. However, the game still had enough players that normally it could've been a decent success it its budget wasn't overblown and the project wasn't mismanaged, so... still pretty baffling!

I think some important context is that, from what I recall, of those 2 million players, the vast majority only played a few minutes and then bounced off either due to server issues, being confused, being bored, being annoyed at how competitively-focused it was, being unable to get into a match, etc.
