What an asinine quote from WaPo.

Of course I hold them in a high degree of contempt.

It's effecting my relationship with my parents because of how contemptuous I find their decision to vote for him.

There's a giant difference between:

1. a clear eyed understanding that being in the military inherently involves being willing to use force, sometimes in morally questionable ways; and

2. thinking you're going to have to kill kids

The first doesn't imply the second.

Your fun

02.03.2026 01:28 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Accurate and completely irrelevant and, as a result, misleading.

02.03.2026 01:26 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

So you actually believe that everyone who signs up for the military believes they will be killing children while in the military. Ok, well that is an insane belief fully disconnected from reality.

02.03.2026 01:14 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yea, I agree it was an inappropriate joke. And the points you make in your thread are extremely well taken. My point is about media criticism, not criticism of the mother. I don't have a problem at all with her being a "gold star" mom and having pride in her son's sacrifice. Bad journalism though.

02.03.2026 00:56 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Not when she's saying she see the attacks as payback. By choosing to reference her gold star status in that headline, there's an implication that the two things are linked. Otherwise it's irrelevant to the story.

02.03.2026 00:53 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I agree. So would Parker, I think. She was making a joke. Yes it was in bad taste, and not one I would have made, but it was pretty clearly a joke.

02.03.2026 00:47 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

On children? You think everyone who enlists thinks they're going to have to kill kids?

02.03.2026 00:43 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

So I agree the post you're quoting is a bad take, but it's a bad joke as part of an overall reasonable take.

The mother at issue is saying she sees the Iran strikes as payback for the loss of her son. By writing Gold Star Mom, the article made an implication that is not supported by the facts.

Who also love Trump and haven't voted for a Dem in years.

I'd rather someone else run. But if the choice is between a guy who kept a pretty obvious Nazi Tattoo on himself for twenty years, or an old person who has been a dedicated public servant. I'm voting for the old person everytime. Fuck Nazis.

02.03.2026 00:02 β€” πŸ‘ 20    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Btw, I stopped listening to you all when you decided to stand by Platner. No Nazis in the party please.

This was a terrible decision for your alls legacy. Hard not to think it's connected with the way Twitter breaks your brain.

I'm a little surprised they're engaging at all, wouldn't the IRGC want to try to protect that force projection. I feel like the optimal strategy now is to bunker down and try to ride out the air attacks and assume the US won't put boots on the ground, but be prepared to porcupine if they do.

Only when the order devoid of context is clearly illegal on its face (e.g. shooting a missile at two surrendering people clinging to their overturned boat), is it lawful for someone down the chain to refuse.

01.03.2026 04:05 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Even if you could argue that it was an unlawful order that the chiefs could have refused, their decision not to makes anyone below them likely obligated to follow their orders.

01.03.2026 04:01 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

(Whispers) there’s a difference between orders that are illegal to follow and orders that are illegal to give, and this may have been the second but it probably wasn’t the first

01.03.2026 02:57 β€” πŸ‘ 132    πŸ” 16    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

I generally do the first, but if the printer doesn't do it on an appeal, I don't freak out as long as they're consistent.

I always include the statute though as I want to make sure it's in the table of authorities for the judges who care about clear statutory authority.

28.02.2026 20:48 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

To be fair Kathryn, I sometimes don't know whether to include mere references in my table of authorities where I've cited the case previously and am using the inline short format. Or where I write "Pursuant to CPLR 2221(d) ...."

Reuters is reporting it now. I assume they have sources they trust not to give them disinformation.

I didn't know AFP had confirmed. Thanks.

28.02.2026 19:53 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Do we trust Israeli media on that? Like I don't think it's intentional misinformation, but it could still be wrong.

28.02.2026 19:52 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

The extent to which the US damages the IRGC's ability to project power internally (without collapsing support for the opposition) will be relevant to whether the protests are successful at regime change.

28.02.2026 19:51 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Al Jeezera says it's over 80 now with another 60 injured. It's based on state media reporting but Al Jeezera also has people on the ground, so if it was complete BS, I would think they'd figure it out quickly. Also, no denial from Israel makes me think it's real.

I can't like this post, but thank you for posting it. I'm not sure we ever can (or should be able to) wash away this stain on our nation.

Did we (the US or its Allies) bomb a school?

28.02.2026 19:36 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Tell that to the mortgage industry. FAPA is such an insane law.

27.02.2026 15:19 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Fair, but rare, and if it's ongoing and egregious (willful) you can get triple, right?

Honestly this was easy. Raising taxes to historically high levels is a cheat code for good government.
