Saliba can’t move towards Onana but that’s enough for them to get the ball into the back of the net.

Amongst the 4 players in the near post, Partey’s attacking position is the closest to Saliba.

The last player (usually Havertz/Kiwior) stays in the far post.

When the ball is kicked, 4 players run towards the near post to attack or block while Saliba disrupts the GK (Onana) in the centre part of the box.

Partey gets the space in between but misses the ball.

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United project is still a work in progress but this is already an exciting start for the fans — some players have displayed great performances and now they need to build consistency to improve their position in the table.

Sometimes Man United’s front 3 also doesn’t provide enough protection, which makes it easier for Everton to progress through the middle.

Despite that, Everton found some gaps in Man United’s defensive block.

They bait/drag the double pivot to create central access for players like Ndiaye and McNeil to exploit.

Amad’s defensive work rate is not something I’m aware of — he shows tenacity in winning the ball back and it helps Man United to score two goals.

From out-of-possession, Ruben Amorim’s side presses using a 4-1-3-2 shape — Amad joins the 2nd line with one of Rasfhord/Bruno and Mainoo.

He can anticipate the pass and win the ball in the process of the 2nd goal.

Man United created some great chances through build-up but they scored their 1st goal through corner kick.

Mainoo & de Ligt block the Everton defenders to create space for Rashford to attack.

Structurally, Man United often outnumbers Everton in defensive transition but they need to improve the execution — as there are still some loose moments.

At times, the opponent can still get away from the pressure.

Zirkzee allows the attacking midfielders (especially Rashford and Garnacho) to get more space and focus in advanced positions.

Amad also gains advantage from this due to Man United often switching the play to the right-hand side.

Unlike Rashford, Zirkzee is comfortable in receiving back-to-goal and providing hold-up/link-up play.

He smoothes things around him and improves the ‘flow’ of the build-up.

Bruno Fernandes remains heavily involved in the build-up — frequently dropping deep or drifting wide to connect play.

His movements can drag the opponent and create space for Dalot/Lisandro to attack.

With both Mazraoui and Lisandro filling the wide centre-back position — it elevates Man United’s technical security and build-up quality,

The wing-backs benefitted from it, as they can advance to receive in more attacking positions but the execution from Dalot and Amad needs to improve.

Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich was able to fight back in this game and force the draw in Ruben Amorim’s debut game with Manchester United — but we can already see glimpses of his style of play and I’m looking forward to his development.

On the other hand, Hojlund (CF) can provide the hold-up play and offer the movements/runs to exploit the space behind.

Rashford can get more advantageous situations where he looks to attack/exploit rather than occupy the space.

The press-baiting and movements from the double 10/AM, help Rashford to get more space but he struggles to engage in duels, drop/receive back to goal, and provides hold-up/link-up play.

In the second half, Bruno and Garnacho switch positions but Manchester United we can see the patterns in previous examples with different variations.
