Critics Fear Mayor Could Sabotage New Detention Facility Law A letter co-signed by 16 education, labor, and environmental organizations urges the mayor to create strong rules for enforcement as a bulwark against federal attacks.

β€œThe more you can slow down this machine, the more you can disrupt deportations. And people are literally dying when they get deported. So, it's not hyperbole to say that people's lives are at stake here.”

We got a stock auto reply and nothing else.

Since we sent the letter, 20 more unions signed on to the demands.

Gov. Kotek tried to destroy preschool for all on behalf of the rich and was defeated handily by parents, teachers, unions, and socialist electeds.

Now she’s retreating by announcing some vague panel to study the issue.

The working class is strong when we fight together for what we deserve. πŸ’ͺ

Over 50 unions and labor organizations have called on Wilson and District Attorney Vasquez to enforce the law against ICE and their landlord.

Wilson’s suggestion that children, the elderly, & union members caused ICE to tear gas us is beyond the pale.

PPB swore in court ICE used excessive force.

Good showing. I went to Vasquez’s office with a delegation of union members who were tear gassed & he refused to come out and meet with us.

His staff (AFSCME members) were very lovely though & let us leave a detailed message about how we were assaulted and want ICE to face Justice for their crimes.

β€œThe actions of ICE on Saturday are indefensible. The time for action from our elected leaders was months ago. A substantive response that reins in these thugs is well overdue, and enforcing existing laws & ordinances is the bare minimum the Mayor and DA Vasquez must be doing.”

Yemeni mother and daughter shaken after apartment window broken by projectile near ICE building The incident is one of several accounts by neighbors who are upset with tear gas and other munitions being deployed in the neighborhood.

Tear gas and whizbangs have been a familiar sight for people living near the Portland ICE facility. Recently, a projectile shot through an apartment window across the street, frightening a 70-year-old Yemeni woman inside who called her daughter crying, saying she "couldn't breathe."

Oregon unions band together for Portland β€˜Labor Against ICE’ protest Organizers said it’s not common for so many unions to protest together around one issue.

A large protest, dubbed β€œLabor Against ICE,” is expected to start near the Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in Portland on Saturday. At least 30 unions endorsed the protest and planned to attend in some fashion.

Meg Ward, president of @cwa7901.bsky.social , said there are still concerns that the federal government could launch an operation in Oregon on a similar level to what’s occurring in Minnesota. She said the protest could be a training ground for how labor unions in Oregon respond.

Everyone who works in or near this geography is at risk of the impacts of a world-historic industrial disaster.
