I think I have a high tolerance for pain (yrs of period crampsTilIPassOut & migraines, both gone now), so it didn't seem THAT bad. Scary itchy though. I likened it to how an old friend had described the (nerve type) pain of herpes, which I think is related.

Sounds terrifying! So glad you got help though. I'm pretty healthy & rarely see my doc. I showed the pharmacist pics (just purple, no blistering). Some came up so high/close to my butt that I kept looking up what hemeroids were! It subsided after a cpl wks & doc later said it sounded like shingles.

(I've found myself praying for everyone I know of with sons in their teens or 20s these last few years. )

Aaaw, no. I got it 2mo into a SUPER stressful govt job, where co-workers all got sick w/something, covid, etc. Anyway, worked remote, no time 4 doc visit, so worked thru it... hip & thigh. Couldn't sit straight for a bit, fluish ~2 days. Pharmacy wouldn't sell me itch cream. Had no idea what it was.
