Been wondering why the news of Matt Gaetz's withdrawal put me in the best mood I've been in for two weeks. Then it occurred to me: Standards for acceptable behavior are being applied. I think we underestimate how destabilizing it is to live in a world where the constant message is: Nothing matters.

Can you imagine how godawful that must stink? I’m having to fight-fight-fight to keep my lunch down.

I have shared the same bathroom with Sarah McBride on several occasions, and she never once made me uncomfortable. She did however help me fix my makeup. That congresswoman knows how to blend her foundation, which is more than I can say about Donald Trump.

Yet a month ago if you’d dared suggest that their feelings about the economy were political, you’d be accused of being out of touch.

Their pathological cravenness and appetite for bootlicking knows no bounds.

Let me see if I can conjure up some tears for her. Hmmm. Guess not.

And honestly, does a country even deserve to survive when half of the people around you could be persuaded that you eat your neighbors’ dogs and cats simply because a notorious carnival barker said so?

How can a country have any hope of survival when an astoundingly large percentage of its populace is operating with such an extreme level of willful gullibility and/or pathological indifference?

What we’re currently witnessing is the kind of susceptibility to utter senselessness that rivals the levels of collective insanity demonstrated during the Salem witch trials and the Red Scare of the 1950s and the Jonestown Massacre.

The earth is flat? Sure, why not. Traffic lights are the work of the devil? Oh, okay. My accountant is a vampire? If you say so.

The unavoidable takeaway from another Trump victory: nearly five out of 10 adults in this country can be persuaded to believe—or lulled into overlooking—almost anything, no matter how patently ridiculous, outrageous, or flat-out false.

The only thing more horrific to me than having to endure another four-year reign of the most despicable human on the planet is having to live among the millions of people who are either foolish enough to be duped by one of the most blatant con artists of all time or apathetic enough to not care. 🧵

I absolutely love Copenhagen. It would be on my short list of places I’d consider relocating to for the next four years (or longer).

Many “Facts of Life” episodes as well. And Jo usually threatened to knock their lights out. Congress needs a lot more Jos.

Ever since I joined Bluesky last week, I’ve had a song from my youth running through my head: “The Blue Sky” by a-ha (of “Take on Me” fame). There’s a line from it I’ve always loved: “I used to be confused, but now I just don’t know.” It just occurred to me that this could be our national slogan.

Update: As of about an hour ago, Tran has officially pulled ahead of Steel, by exactly 36 votes! He’s making progress with every new batch of ballots, so he would seem to be on a path to victory.

“Her body, your choice” my ass.

I mailed 200 postcards to Dem voters in this district. Hoping those voters can help Tran eke out a win.

Keep up the good work! As I wrote on many of the postcards I sent down there:

As Election Day draws near
And the uncertainty mounts
Only one thing is clear:
Every single vote counts!

Thanks for the update. It now looks like Steel is ahead by about 250 votes with 90% of the expected votes counted. At this rate, it seems like Tran may have a decent chance of surpassing her.

Couldn't help but notice that Polis totally bypassed RFK Jr.'s oft-repeated claims that chemicals in the water make children gay and trans. How can you be "excited" by one tiny part of the guy's portfolio when 95% of his beliefs are crackpot conspiracy theories?

That’s really disturbing. Polis also tweeted this about RFK Jr. a few months ago: Not sure how bringing back Measles and bringing back Polio makes anyone more healthy…
