It creates chronic dismissal and structural denial.

Not worth wasting time on people who deep down believe you ‘lack insight’ for not accepting their imposed understanding of your despair. Life is too short to tolerate such intolerance.

Coercive control in the mental health system

The ending of Girl, Interrupted sees the main character reject psychiatry—and specifically Borderline Personality Disorder—for its inherent sexism.
