Timbers from 17th Century shipwreck appear on Dorset beach Experts believe timbers found at Studland Beach form a missing piece of the Swash Channel wreck from 1631.

And in other news, thanks to Storm Chandra, our colleagues from @bournemouthuni.bsky.social Maritime Archaeology have found a part of the Fame of Hoorn, an armed Dutch merchant ship that sank in 1631

ICE detains five-year-old Minnesota boy arriving home, say school officials Superintendent says Liam Ramos and his father were taken into custody while in their driveway and sent to Texas

β€˜Terrible things are happening outside… Families are torn apart; men, women and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared. Women return… to find their families gone.’

A recycling bin, not long after colliding with a bus. It's still right side up!

A recycling bin, not long after colliding with a bus. It's still right side up!

Attenborough voice:

Here we are in Edinburgh to witness the big communal binsℒ️ head off on their adventures, aided by the autumnal winds. Will they topple and empty their contents across the land? Will they fly free, lids flapping into the wind? Or will they smash into a number 124 lothian bus?

fwiw, just from a branding standpoint, i think "family friendly" is a lot smarter than "nonviolent", because a skeptical person will see "nonviolent" and wonder why you have to specify that, whereas no normal person raises an eyebrow at "family friendly"

Elon Musk’s tweet against the EU

Elon Musk’s tweet against the EU

The idiocy here is immense.

Musk is more of an anti-European than Putin.

No European governments should do business with any of his companies (looking at you Italy - and Starlink).

He’s just here to pull down everything decent and collaborative, so that he can control the pieces.

You never really forget your first style guide. No matter how many years pass, its rules on caps will always seem natural to you and any deviation from them a kind of biblical perversion.

#Viking Parallels: Always struck by similarities between the Vale of York (c. AD 927-9) and Skye's Storr Rock (935-40) hoards, inc. dirhams, brooch terminal hacksilver, ingots, and arm rings. It shows the prevalence of the Viking bullion economy in northern Britain.

When Trump says "We're going to become so rich you're not going to know where to spend all that money"

He's not talking to you.

He's talking to himself and his fellow billionaires -- to Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg.

THEY'RE going to get richer. With YOUR money.

A German word for being embarrassed by the actions of someone else is Fremdscham, or β€œforeign shame.” A similar word from Icelandic is aulahrollur, which is quite tricky to translate but basically means something along the lines of β€œcringe quake” or β€œdouchebag chills”

Funny how he isn’t wearing a suit either. Almost like he was a wartime leader defending his country from being slaughtered and wiped out by an authoritarian aggressor.

#Viking lead-inset weight, as reported to @findsorguk.bsky.social.

βš–οΈ 49.1g = c.2 ΓΈre/oz?

Possibly developed in Great Army camps, #Vikings used them to weigh hacksilver and other bullion currency to determine cash value.
