Act Against Censorship Good morning, @everyone. As I hope all of you are aware of by now, many governments (Especially in the UK and EU) are currently implementing draconian laws to censor what you can see, hear, read, play and experience. This is all done under the false pretence of "protecting children", which has always been an easy way to convince the uninformed and lazy of a terrible cause. They are implementing, or have already implemented, laws that will require you to show your face or ID in order to access websites and other online spaces. Why is that concerning? Data breaches WILL occur, giving malicious actors access to your personal data. The state WILL be able to track exactly what you do online. The state WILL restrict your access to content they don't approve of. You WILL lose access to fast, reliable and true information online. It's just adult content. Why should I care? "Adult content" is only the very beginning of this. This has happened before, so we know well what it will lead to very quickly: News that conflict with the governments ideology will be "adult content". LGBTQ+ people will be fetishized, and therefore become "adult content", effectively removing them from society. Propaganda will thrive, as any opposing views will be labelled as "adult content". All of this is the FIRST step. We cannot allow this slippery slope to continue, and must demand that even this first step is reversed immediately.

But there is some content I want banned! That's a dangerous mindset, and I hope to explain it with an example. Please try to truly see what I mean here: You want loli content banned from the internet. This is a view many people will quickly share, because it is an agreeable stance and "won't affect me". You've now opened the door to banning things that someone deems inappropriate. Tomorrow, I decide that excessive violence should be banned. This is still an agreeable stance to most. However, this means FPS games, many movies and books can now be labelled as "excessively violent" and get banned. The next day, somebody wants hurtful language banned. Suddenly, any voicing of your opinion, that is not government conforming, is seen as hurtful. We NEED to stand with people, even if their freedom of expression differs from our own. What can I do against this? Be loud. Be unignorable. Call AND E-Mail your local politicians. Your anxiety to do so CANNOT stop you from doing what is right. A silent citizen is a compliant citizen. And compliance ALWAYS benefits the oppressor. To find out where to call and E-Mail, go to your governments official website. There, they will list contact information for their representatives. If you aren't sure who to call and E-Mail, trust your gut. It is more important that you do it over doing it exactly right. Call and E-Mail multiple!
