My best guess? Contracts
(theory) For whatever reason, Kit9 felt uncomfortable with Nemlei's previous works being available freely online, whether for marketing or copyright reasons

But that doesn't really answer why, now does it?
As much as I might not like it, deleting (or privating) an Itch IO page isn't the wildest thing I've seen someone do.

I did some digging

After much searching (and a non-zero amount of asking around) I've managed to track down playable versions of all five pre-Coffin games.
While this doesn't answer WHY they removed, I have worked out a few theories

Jack-in-a-Castle is especially interesting, as it saw a (cheap, $5.99 USD) Steam release before its inexplicable removal.

From what I can tell, these removals and take-downs (including of archived pages and files hosted elsewhere) happened shortly after the developer partnered with Kit9

In order, to the best of my understanding:
- Jack-in-a-Castle (2019)
- Divilethion (2020)
- Better Half (2021)
- Candy Scabs (2021)
- No-Good Noelle (2022)

With the exception of Jack-in-a-Castle, all were released free on the Dev's Itch IO page, which has since been taken down

So, Nemlei games are weird

For anyone who isn't familiar, it's the same dev who made Coffin of Andy and Leyley originally. (before the project's takeover by Kit9 Studio)
But they didn't start there! They actually made five VNs before Coffin!
