The managed C++ engine side will be closed source due to Valve limitations, but they actually have plans to fully open source the C# side, and even accept contributions.
Exporting limitations will be, as long as you publish to Steam, you can publish anywhere.
Loving it so far. Very versatile, and it's nice to work in an engine where you can directly talk to the developers. Nice little community, and I think it has lots of potential. The API is great. There are places for improvement, but I see the potential.

There will be exporting to Steam, plus the s&box platform itself is already fully usable. Mobile/console - not anytime soon.

I've been working on games in s&box since 2021 (when dev preview opened up). It has gone through A LOT, and still rough around the edges in a few places, but there is no engine I'd rather be using.
