'The historical silencing of women has clearly created an appetite for angry and vengeful female characters that doesnβt look like it will be going away any time soon.'
Lucy Nichol explores narratives of female vengeance in Issue 107 mslexia.co.uk/magazine/lat...

Hands up if you think this is one of the best views in Shropshire! Iβve photographed Ludlow from Whitcliffe Common more times than I can remember, and I never get bored. It looks fantastic whatever the season, but the autumn colours this year make it extra special. #Shropshire

Screen grab from the Windy App showing the coast of East Sussex, and lines of prevailing winds from the south, moving north. It has a small flag on it pinned near Newhaven showing the gusts right now are around 58 miles per hour. Having walked out on the cliffs earlier in the evening, I believe it!
The reason why Sussex is a 'shipwreck coast' -- prevailing winds are usually from the south or southeast, and drove vessels towards the cliffs. Spending the windy evening looking at ship "wrecking" cases for two upcoming talks. #SussexCoast

A cropped screenshot from a Canadian government website with the prompt "What's your occupation?"
The answer "Writer" has been provided, generating the red text error response "Please enter a valid occupation."
Almost a year now since I received this absolutely classic burn from the Canadian government.

November 21st, 1974 two bombs devastated two Birmingham city pubs killing 21 civilians and wounding 182. While the Provisional IRA were blamed for the attack, and six innocent Irishmen were deliberately wrongfully convicted of the crimes, 51 years later, no one has been convicted of this attack.

Viz letter. Three months of the year end in ember and the 5th is not actually rhymed with anything in that poem. But apart from that, remember remember the 5th of November is a great mnemonic device. Christina Martin, Bexhill on Sea.

I'm tired. We're all tired. This isn't hard to understand. You can't inflate prices of basic necessities like food and housing to ridiculous highs while keeping wages at poverty levels, then act surprised when luxury goods/services and large purchases become unattainable or payments unaffordable.

There's a book called "Modern Ghost Stories of Yellowstone" which has a tagline of "Not all who wander are living."

The photo booth flashes. My license preview shows someone else's faceβolder, tired, content. "That's not me."
"It's who you'll become," the clerk says, snow globe water pooling around my documents. "DMV upgraded. We photograph futures now."
I study the stranger's smile, the laugh lines I haven't earned. "Can I choose different?"
"You already did." She slides the license across the counter. "That's why he's smiling."

βIn a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.β - J.R.R. Tolkien, #TheHobbit (Pub: 21 Sept 1937)

At Greggs in High Holborn there is - according to this eighteenth-century newspaper at least - 'as good CHOCOLATE as can be made in England.'
Well done Greggs!
(I have a family member who loves Greggs so much he tried to take his wife there on Valentine's Day.)

Photo showing the sheer cliffs between Newhaven and Peacehaven. Evidence of several rockfalls can be seen on the shore. No, I wasn't this close. That's what zooming in is for!
Photo of the cliff, showing the other walkers to the right. They look tiny compared to the height of the cliff.
Photo showing tumuli at the cliff edge. There are three 'lumps'; we were told the middle on was used for shooting practice during the Second World War. This site has lots of war remains, including a cement road and pillboxes (not shown in the photo).
We went on a walk to Harbour Heights Nature Preserve. What a fascinating place! There are fears of development there (I would NOT buy a house on that geology!); the biodiversity is impressive. We saw swallows, lots of rabbit signs, a tumulus (Iron or Bronze Age?), and cliff views. #SussexCoast
