Love in every scale

so when I transfered the clean sketch from my 'fern doodles' canvas I had made a new canvas that was 17x11 and x'DDD it was nowhere near wide enough. so yeah...it's massive.
BUT...! THE DETAILS.

Just saw #IronLung! sooooooo good! I had high expectations because of just how good In Space was and I was not disappointed! It also had some great practical FX towards the end. Definitely recommend it

I used to hate drawing both scales AND feathers. I mean actively avoided it at all costs.

The key to being able to do this now is just that I found the love in the minutia. I love the character these are a part of, so I made myself love drawing them.

Nowadays I don't mind at all drawing them

1100% would rather have delightful qurupeco as the face of the next stories game than fucking rathalos. qurupeco is at least fucking useful and adorbs

The overwhelming joy the day I beat streets of rage 2 while playing as blaze after my dad used up all his lives and died in the last level. Omg I was so proud and he was so very salty. I keep a copy of that game on all my PlayStations now just so I can enjoy it. Soooo much fun and great music

my first aussie was also a service dog but she got lymphoma way too young and losing her was beyond traumatic. she came from "show dog" lines, and I blame that for why she died so fucking young. unfortunately the show ring is PLAGUED with evil corrupt people breeding for looks not health.

Janeway is a ptsd service dog with a therapy qualification, so I usually refer to her as esd/therapy dog for short. she helps me with everyday tasks as well as helping me when I can't handle life. my other dog is just a pet and he's a good boy with a billion health issues. he's a rescue tho so yanno

she's 11 and it feels like yesterday that I picked her up on new years [yes, I brought my baby home new years day 2015]. She's from working lines as opposed to show lines and has the health of an ox. Kept up with all her maintenance as she's aged and no hip or eye issues at all. I'm lucky.

as someone with two senior dogs life is so stressful but Janeways annual bloodwork came back perfect, so my little farmdog from redneck-land Georgia is in perfect health. soooo relieved. I feel so fucking blessed I got a great quality aussie breeder this time around.

Example of the level of detail of the ych at its cheapest, it's more painterly, doesn't really feature much detail when comes to individual scales or the frills.

The YCH will gradually become more detailed until ending up becoming a full on portfolio illustration piece, a bit more detailed than the two following examples: with close ups of quite detailed scale work

A style guide on how more stylized characters might look on my style, with some changes that might happen: As I aim for semi-realism/realism and hold some personal preferences that define my style, there are a couple of things that will change or I will not feature when translating your character from its original style to mine: -Femenine eyelashes and white scleras won't make it when comes to non-humanoids. -Dragons covered in fur, manes, horse like hair and mohawks will not change, but human-like hairstyles won't make it. Human-like eyebrows normally won't either, there are exceptions. -Body proportions will be tweaked for realism (if your dragon is fat, thin or longer than normal it will absolutely remain that way) THE BODYTYPE STAYS. -I will not add breasts on dragons, lizards, or birds. -Feel free to tell me what kind of anatomy to prioritize if you have a multiple species fursona, ie: it's a shark wolf but the head is way more wolf than shark.

He's a Mistavian, they’re a sadly, extinct race native to my homeworld Emain. He’s actually dead, they all are, but I love drawing him so I allow myself to have fun and just sketch him since there's a lot of pre-extinction history there!

100%! His race actually hunted with echolocation and silent stalking takedowns of large prey. You'd think they'd fly to hunt but nope! Far easier to hunt on foot! The echolocation trait I've passed down from his race to the veil and abyss! They just need to practice a bit to learn it
