There's an interesting grammatical tense used only to talk about powerful, wealthy people, where they have simultaneously done the thing, are doing the thing, and will do the thing.

Totally divorced from the concept of linear time, the only important element is: important person and thing.

Hear me out...

Univerally praised games are neat enough, but nothing hits quite like something unpopular that speaks to *you*.

So show-and-tell: Link and Explain a game that's UNDERRATED (sub-500 user reviews), UNDERRATED (sub 80% score) or BOTH (ideally!) that is near and dear to your heart.

On a historical level it's almost a shame how down-played the essential Greek-ness of Christian culture is. (outside of modern Greece itself, of course) Jesus just means Yeshua/Joshua in Greek! even the Italian artists 1000 years later could tell he was just Young Zeus

Tried going back to church and reading the bible on my own time when I was a preteen and realized my instincts were right, the shit is evil and the people invested are creepy. Then later in HS there was this christian family who made their daughter "forgive" the boy that assaulted her.

For Mahmoud Khalll, this past year has been marked by profound hardship-and by profound courage.
A year ago, Mahmoud was walking home through our city after sharing an iftar with his wife Noor when he was detained by federal agents, flown to Louisiana, and then held in an ICE facility for months. In that time, he was forced to miss the birth of his first child. All of this for exercising his First Amendment rights in protesting the ongoing genocide in Palestine.
And yet, even in the face of that cruelty, there has also been beauty. New Yorkers raising their voices in solidarity. A city refusing to look away. Mahmoud won his freedom, and a father was finally reunited with his child.
Last night, as we marked the one year anniversary of his detention, Rama and I were honored to welcome Mahmoud, Noor, and their son Deen to Gracie Mansion to break our fast together.
Mahmoud is a New Yorker, and he belongs in New York City.

An Edward Gorey drawing showing a morose looking black bird on a branch. He (and this feels very much like a he) is pointing downwards with one scraggly wing, and looking straight ahead with debt-filled eyes. His beak is long and sharp, like winter on the Great Plains. He is pointing with his right wing, but this means he is pointing to your left. Your wicked, sinister side. This is no accident. The Bird makes no such mistakes. But he is talking, and the text tells us that he is saying, "Beware of this and that."

Honestly, you feel his message in your bones.

Some days I just feel like this Edward Gorey bird gets it.

Here's a thread featuring clips of key moments from the DC Metropolitan Police body camera footage of the March 17, 2025 DOGE raid on the US Institute of Peace that I obtained as a result of my FOIA lawsuit:

the pattern we saw today was also how it went during Covid and the Liberation Day crashes. The market crashes, Trump says exactly what the market wants to hear and the market rallies back, it's then revealed that what Trump was saying is bullshit, but the market stays up instead of crashing

Hollywood copaganda told multiple generations that bad guys were constantly β€œgetting away with it” because evil DAs got key evidence thrown out or similar β€œtrickery.”

This really needs a longer thread, but the short answer for why we have those rules? Nothing else made cops follow the law. Nothing.

Screenshot from NY Mag feature on how much people make in NYC: "Bronx Day-Care Worker

$31,000

$16,600 from day-care profits

$14,400 from trainings and consulting

Last year, I lost a lot of kids. I live in the Bronx, and a bunch of families in my neighborhood lost their child-care vouchers. We're talking about people who make as much as I do; most of the moms I work with are home health aides. They can't afford full-time child care. If I have 16 kids, I can pay myself for 40 hours of work. But last year, I didn't, and obviously I'm still doing the same amount of work. I've been running the day care out of my home for more than seven years. It's a profession I entered out of necessity and have stayed in out of passion. I pay for everything - food, cleaning supplies, toys - and we have to meet the same requirements as a large company in terms of paying for liability insurance, which can feel pointless in this industry. I mean, if something happens to one of my children, I lose my license. End of story."

$17,000,000

$9.5 million from consulting fees

$7.5 million in stock in companies that went public

The big-picture way that I make my money is consulting; that work covers my day-to-day.

Separate from that, I had stock in a couple of companies that went public. Because I made money later in life, my tastes and needs are a lot simpler. I don't spend money on things like having multiple homes, or flying private, or watches, or boats. I make enough money that I do what I want and I don't think about it. I also don't believe in leaving my kids a crazy amount of money because everyone I know who has that is fucked up, so why would I do that to them?"

Video appears to show U.S. cruise missile striking Iranian school compound The seven-second video was released by Iranian state media and directly contradicts statements made by President Trump, who said Iran was responsible for the strike.

The Iranian girls’ school was hit by a US tomahawk cruise missile. NPR has confirmed the footage.

This puts me at 10 people released. I filed my 1st habeas petition 29 days ago. I am an incredibly small-time, nobody lawyer who knew nothing about immigration law the day I submitted that case. I barely know any more today. I had never sued the federal government and now I've beaten them 10 times.

Worked out great for companies like gamestop that have developed an "avoid at all costs" reputation due to the 20 questions and 3 minimum upsales per transaction. They can just blame "shoplifting gangs" and "Amazon" to the shareholders

If a Democrat anywhere says something even marginally controversial, Republicans solidify to categorize it as the position of the Democratic Party as a whole, publicize it, and so on.

I sincerely have no idea why Democrats don't do the same about bigotry and religious intolerance by Republicans
