Oh absolutely, I was jobless and homeless and literally cried when I said no. I was in no position to do it and I'm sad to say the line for me was 6 day workweeks when I had a young son that I didn't want to miss.

I ended up at Amazon, then nowhere.

- I managed a full day with them because I hadn't brought my car to the centre of Edinburgh (parking would be hell) and I couldn't leave until the person took me back there for my train home

- The young people that work there consider the charity days to be the 'good' ones as it's a far easier sell. They are SALESPEOPLE. They have targets.

- They are all slightly ashamed and angered by Big Issue salespeople, possibly recognising that they are even less of a charity resource

- 6 day weeks are MANDATORY, 8 hours a day. You're standing in a shopping centre somewhere in Falkirk and you have to buy your own lunch from them

- You know EVERYONE hates you

- The workers are all young, and MUST DRIVE as they are given no transport and told their places every morning (I suppose to stop you recognising them)

- The workers know it sucks but they need a wage and the CEO will sell them on 'owning their own company' - another chugger group - to keep them

Actually, some facts about charity muggers that I have from working with them for a full day before leaving

- They have a morning briefing every day where they gather and discuss figures. It's mostly chanting.
