The entire business model of R1 public universities rests on 4 revenue sources:

1. Federal grants
2. Private gifts/endowments
3. Tuition (esp. from foreign students)
4. State $

For decades, 📈 in 1-3 offset a secular 📉 in 4. Now, 1 & 3 are being decimated & 4 ain't coming back. The math is clear.

What I would like to remind everyone talking about Sam Altman talking about the “PhD level intelligence” of the new ChatGPT is that Sam Altman dropped out of college so he… has no experiential construct for what grad school even is.

very curious if anyone has any answers. it's so hard to figure this out. i rolled over half of my retirement into ethical funds several years ago and it was a costly fiasco. so much of that stuff is only targeted at super rich people or ... it still invests in icky stuff anyway!

So... how do we try to make sure our 401k funds aren't put into private equity, real estate, cryptocurrency and other alternative assets. Any personal finance folks out there who can comment?

We are definitely thinking about this for our kids, especially since they are interested in the sciences. We're several years out from this, but the destruction of American higher education will have long lasting effects.

If you asked any of the tech bros if they want their kids to experience college this way, they would all say no.

I’m really disappointed, council member. These changes aren’t enough. We feel like we’ve been sold out to put more $$ in the pocket of billionaires. What protection is there for homeowners who will be directly and negatively affected by this development? The people lost today.
