This World Environment Day, we lift up those working to protect 30x30 for the people, with the people—because access to clean air, water, and open space should never be a privilege.

But the work hasn’t stopped. Movements like the America the Beautiful for All Coalition are advancing a vision of conservation justice—protecting nature and ensuring that Black, Indigenous, and frontline communities have a say, a stake, and a safe environment.

The climate and biodiversity crises are deeply interconnected—and so is the fight for justice. The global 30x30 goal is a bold step toward protecting nature and communities. Yet while nearly every nation on Earth has signed on, the U.S. remains on the sidelines.
