While my dad read the Tribune I sat at the breakfast table studying the latest Funcoland price guide
08.10.2025 04:17 — 👍 1 🔁 1 💬 1 📌 0"Want me to pass you the funny pages, son?" My father asked as what remained of Sunday breakfast grew cold on the table. Without pause, I smugly denied father's childish offer. After 5 whole years on the earth, I decided that I must become an informed consumer.
"Pass me the Funcoland ad, please"
I totally get it. People look at me crazy when I say that the grocery store is my happy place and zone out place all in one

You don't want to see Toad beyond beer 3.

Episode Update!!
After months of writer's block, I made it out.
I've written 23 pages, just under 11,000 words... so far. It's DENSE.
This is my biggest "Memories" episode yet. I hope it'll be a cozy listen for anyone who feels nostalgic about working at or going to gaming stores growing up.
MAIL CALL (yeah, again)
Anyone have Funcoland nostalgia?
The memories exist only in the dustiest corners of my mind as some of the earliest gaming memories that I have. I had to pick up this bootleg shirt when I saw it. I hadn't even thought of the name Funcoland in what feels like forever.

And yeah there's a supposed be a small run of somewhat functional prototypes out there. Like really small, maybe a dozen? It's super hard to tell.
They were brought out to a few public events.
This is the only one to pop up for sale I think. I know of one diehard YouTuber who has one as well.
I wanted it to succeed at first, too. I do think the idea needed more refinement. Hearing the revival of a defunct gaming brand like Intellivision will always make me curious.
BUT
Then it turned in to a 27 part drama/comedy about the Tommy Wiseau of video games. Now I'm hooked on the story.
(It's been sold since after a relist)
08.10.2025 01:44 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Bro we need to know who tf bought the amico prototype from eBay.
Honestly? It was an ok price considering it's an unreleased prototype console from a notoriously questionable person.
For like $2k?, shit we could've crowd funded and sent it to Hbomberguy

That much I did!
I found that out when I was doing some research on the korg gadget for Nintendo switch.
One day I will get a copy of the ds game and add it to my setup if I can get it to sync right
Oh also one more music gear pickup video gamey post for the night:
TELL ME THIS DRUM MACHINE WASN'T INSPIRED BY THE JAPANESE RED SEE THROUGH N64.
I actually got it because I needed a machine, but the colors can't be a coincidence. The drum machine basically comes in all of the fun n64 colors.
How do you all feel about people repurposing old technology in to completely new items?
Apparently there's a fella making some pretty good guitar pedals out of old (authentic) game boy shells.
I love the way they look, but my weird collector brain is also glitching out at the "destruction"
Collecting old video games has real poisoned random areas of my life.
Nothing serious, don't worry
but, I really shouldn't have to have a personal debate on wether or not to throw out boxes and manuals for random household crap
95% of the time? Just throw it out
Maybe I'm just super late to the party but WarioWare DIY had a music maker?
The sequel to Mario paint may have been right in front us the whole time.
I'm gonna be honest, I completely skipped that game but I might be picking up a copy just to mess around with the music and sounds
Yep! May I also suggest Garlic Jam by @everydaylouie.bsky.social for a little WWDIY listening?
louiezong.bandcamp.com/album/garlic...
He did a whole 10 track album with just the game? That's sick, I'm about to listen.
I only know of Louie from his Pokémon surf rock album and maybe one or two odd YouTube videos, but I'm so entertained every time

07.10.2025 02:23 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0thanks! I'm sure I will one of these days.
I'd watch that content for sure, it's basically what I've been somewhat unsuccessfully trying to research lately
I didn't even notice that it was missing but yeah that sucks. If they're going to charge $50 for a decoration that's only good for like 3-4 weeks a year, they better make sure all the details are there.
I bet they would've charged even more if the sega logo was there
